Hilda Shields Obituary

Hilda AndersonShields 10/13/15 ~ 3/27/03  MILFORD - Hilda Anderson Shields, 87, a 56-year resident of Milford, passed away March 27, 2003. She was born in Fillmore, UT, Oct 13, 1915 to James and Zina Larsen Anderson, the sixth of seven children. Her father died when she was 12 years old; and her mother two years later. Hilda worked her way through school attending high school in Delta and Provo before returning to Fillmore for her senior year. She graduated in 1933. After graduation she worked in Scipio and then moved to California where she met and married LeRoy Shields. They had one daughter, Shirleen, born in Oakland. The family moved to Milford, 1947. Hilda was a very active contributor to the Milford community through both her employment and volunteer activities. She worked as a postal clerk, hospital worker and swimming pool manager. Her volunteer activities included the Milford Centennial Committee, the Milford City Youth Committee, the Senior Citizens and serving as a room mother for 12 years and as a 4-H Leader. She helped bring industrial development to Milford and helped with the centennial celebration in 1973. Hilda loved her little house and life in Milford. She took great joy in her family and cats, the beautiful Utah skies, the kids coming by to say hello, the birds that would build a nest each year under the eve of her porch and good friends. Hilda is survived by her daughter, Shirleen (Scott) Tucker, Golden, CO; two grandchildren, Chris (Michele) Tucker, Amy Tucker; and three great-grandchildren, Zach, Kaley, Sydney. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley, Noble; and four sisters, Dorothy, Erma, Gladys, Ethel. Services will be Mon. March 31, 2003, 1p.m. Milford LDS 1st Ward Chapel. Friends may pay their respects Mon. at the church 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Interment, Fillmore Cemetery. Directors, Olpin Southern Utah Mortuary. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Milford High School in memory of Hilda Shields.
