Howard Jorgensen Obituary

Howard Jorgensen

May 20, 1932 ~

January 22, 2022

Howard Jorgensen passed away in his sleep in his own home surrounded by his wife Lou Ann Jorgensen and two amazing caregivers. He would have been 90 years old this May.

He lived an amazing life with his wonderful wife for over 67 years. Together they raised three boys, Greg, Blake and Paul and he did everything to help them be kind, gentle and successful.

Howard was raised in Salt Lake by parents who helped him understand the need to help others and grow those people around him. He met Lou Ann at Westminster College and both he and Lou Ann went on to the University of Utah where he ultimately became the President of the Alumni Association, led many Boards at the University and was a major fan of University of Utah Sports. He also was deeply involved in the Utah Natural History Museum, Ballet West and St. Mark's Cathedral and served as the President of the Alta Club.

He started his career in television production and management and then he and a long-time friend, Des Barker, formed Barker and Jorgensen Advertising that he ran for almost 50 years.

Howard did everything for his family – he was a Little League coach for his sons, Cub Scout and Boy Scout troop leader and helped his sons and grandson earn the rank of Eagle Scout as he himself had done many years before. He loved the outdoors, skiing, golf, tennis and other sports. He taught his three sons to all ski at the age of 2 years old. He skied well into his late 70's and enjoyed everyday skiing with his sons and their families.

We will miss his always calm approach and positive attitude. His ability to teach without knowing he was actually teaching you and his wonderful spirit all the way up to his last day. He is survived by his wife Lou Ann, his sons and their wives, Greg and Judy, Blake and Debbie, Paul and Setareh, and three grandchildren, Peter, Parissa and Anousha.

There will be a service for Howard at the Cathedral Chruch of St. Mark in Salt Lake City on Monday, February 14, at 2:00 PM.

Howard was model volunteer in our community, especially as president son the U of U Alumni Association, the Alta Club, the Natural History museum of Utah, St. Mark´s etc. etc. He and LouAnn were gracious, elegant, and hard working, and their pride over their family knew no bounds. Mary and I will miss him sorely.
