Irmgard Mueller Obituary

July 23, 1920 ~ June 12, 2018
Irmgard Ruth Gottschalk Mueller passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 of natural causes.
She was born July 23, 1920 in Breslau, Germany to Klara Reitzig and Karl Paul Gottschalk, the oldest of their five children. She married Heino Bruno Amandus Mueller on March 1, 1944 in Breslau, Silesia, Germany. They were married for over 73 years.
Irmgard was educated like many of the children of her day and place, and then entered an apprenticeship program. While engaged in that she won local, state, and national honors. She began serving as a full time LDS missionary during World War II in the East German Mission and was honorably released in 1943. In 1944, she moved to the city of Danzig with her new husband Heino, to live in an apartment with her in-laws. While in Danzig, she worked as the assistant to the head of finance and accounting for the Danzig Port Authority. Because of the war she had to flee Danzig and resettled in Langen West Germany. Two years after the war was over Heino returned to her and his family in Langen after prisoner-of war internment in Southern Italy. There they had their two sons and resided until they immigrated to Salt Lake City, Utah in June 1953. She and Heino lived in Salt Lake City the rest of her life except for two years in Freiburg, Germany when she and Heino served as temple missionaries.
She was an active member of the LDS Church, and served in many callings. She enjoyed classical music, knitting, crocheting, cooking, traveling, reading, and doting on her grandchildren. She worked hard to instill in her children, love for classical music, the importance and need of education, and love for the LDS Church.
She will be missed by all who knew her and especially by her grandchildren in whose lives she played such an important part and who loved her dearly.
She is survived by her two sons-Reinhard (Alice) and Matthias (Susan), seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and her brother Paul Gottschalk. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Herbert and Heinz Gottschalk, stepbrother Herman Banke, and sister Margot Cutchen.
The family expresses its sincerest gratitude and appreciation to Irmgard's caregivers: the members of the East Millcreek's 9th Ward, St. Marks' doctors and nurses, Sunrise Assisted Care Facility, and Canyon Homecare & Hospice. We extend a special thanks to Lee Johnson, Ginny Johnson and Ann Bezdjian for their loving support and assistance.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the East Millcreek 9th Ward, 3750 South Hillside Lane (2600 East) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Internment was at The Wasatch Lawn Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.wasatchlawn.com.

I wish to express my sincere sympathy to the Mueller family. I knew Irmgard and Heino in Germany during World War II and after, where our paths crossed many times, especially in Church work. Even in her youth, she was a great lady. I pray the Lord will sustain the family during this difficult time and in the future.

My heartfelt sympathy to her sons, Reinhard and Mathias and her brother, Paul Gottschalk. I remember Irmgard from Breslau. I remember her returning from her mission and speaking in the Breslau Centrum Branch. She was a very intelligent person and a very loving and compassionate individual. I am sure she will be greatly missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren and many friends.

Most Sincerely
Gisela Baron Schaeler Schupple
