Ivan Corbridge Obituary

Ivan Lawrence Corbridge  Ivan Lawrence Corbridge, age 85, passed away peacefully at home October 15, 2002 surrounded by his loved ones. He died after a long battle with pul-monary fibrosis.He was born Feb. 18, 1917 in Layton, Utah to Lawrence George Corbridge and Mary Emily Tuttle. He was the third of 11 children and, as the oldest son, was called upon to do a man's work on the family farm starting as a young boy. The character and work ethic developed in his youth propelled him throughout his life to always be productive and anxiously engaged in a good cause and to always be learning. He attended high school in Malad, Idaho where he served as student body president. He served an LDS mission in Australia from 1937 to 1940. On June 5, 1942, he married the light of his life, Agnes Howe, in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. He defended his country in World War II from January 1942 until November of 1946 in the Army Air Corps. While in Europe, he participated in the invasion of Normandy. As a Captain, his company was cited for meritorious service, and he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was proud to be a veteran and loved his country and the American flag. He received his bachelor's degree from Utah State University in 1946, his Masters Degree from the University of Chicago in 1948 and his Ph.D. from Washington State College in 1952. He was a professor of Agricultural Economics at Brigham Young University from 1952 to 1982 where he served in foreign assignments in Argentina, Venezuela, Canada and Mexico. After retiring from BYU, he also served in assignments in Saudi Arabia and Peru. Always faithful and active in the LDS church, he served in positions of leadership in Bishoprics, High Councils, and as High Priest Group Leader. He served as a temple ordinance worker for 10 years in the Mesa, Arizona and Jordan River temples. His productive tenacity in doing genealogical research, family history and temple work has been an inspiration to all.  He is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 60 years, Agnes, and their four children: Marilyn (Ned) Phillips of Las Vegas; Larry (Jacque) currently serving as mission presidents in Santiago, Chile; Wayne (Brenda) of Lindon, Utah; Diane (Craig) Coburn of Holladay, Utah. He has 20 grandchildren who love and honor him. He is survived by brothers and sisters: Eldon, Malad, Idaho; Lon, Malad, Idaho; Mollie Hyer, Las Vegas; Lauraine Allen, Montpelier, Idaho; Lucille Skanchy, Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by his brother, Dale, and by four sisters: Ivy, Ella, Marie Taylor, and Christie Bastian. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 19, 2002 at 12:00 noon in the Hillcrest 9th Ward at 915 East Peach Blossom Drive (enter subdivision from 700 East and 9140 South) in Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to the services. A viewing will also be held Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary located at 1950 East and 10600 South in Sandy, Utah. Interment will be at the Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, Utah with full military rites afforded. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund.
