Jack R. Chynoweth

Jack R. Chynoweth Will Be Missed TROPIC, UTAH- Jack R. Chynoweth of Tropic, Utah passed away September 28, 2007. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and patriarch of our family. Jack, having completed his mortal journey, was called home and reunited with his parents, three brothers, and three sisters. Jack was born in Henrieville, Utah to parents Harvey Chynoweth and Roxie Campbell Chynoweth. God sent him an angel on earth to be his companion. He married Mae Pollock in the Salt Lake Temple by President Harold B. Lee, and they have shared 65 wonderful years together. To that union four children were born, Jack Evan Chynoweth, Deanna Linford, Kristine Milne, and Randa Kay Ott. He was blessed with 26 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. Jack attended and graduated from Tropic High School and was called to serve in World War II in 1942, where he served on the front lines. He received the Purple Heart for his services. Jack had many interests. After the war, he and Dean Wintch, his brother-in-law, built and managed the Bryce Valley Theater until the introduction of television. He also cut timber and worked for the National Park Service for 31 years. He was a skilled Western Cowboy, who knew the ins and outs of cattle. He grew up in the cattle business, running cattle in the lower country known as "Down Below" in Kane County, with his father, brothers, wife and children. He loved the life of a cowboy, fixing fences, branding cattle, camping out under the stars with campfire and just happy to have a can of beans for "supper." His Sweetheart wouldn't allow it though, and always had wonderful "grub boxes" packed for a banquet. He could stay for days just riding the range. We enjoyed many happy family outings at the cabins in Deer Range and Dry Valley. Though Dad's spirit is gone, those memories will stay with us always. He loved the fragrance of sage brush after a fresh rain, green grass after a long drought, wild flowers, a good calf crop in the Spring, a hot cup of Postum and a cold Shasta. He enjoyed hard work and keeping his hands busy. He provided for his family working long hours, coming home late at night, tired and weary. As children we remember removing his boots because he was completely worn out! Jack was a very caring and wonderful person, and loved surrounding himself with his family. One of his greatest loves was for his children and grandchildren. Jack was an active member of the LDS church where he served in many callings including counselor to two bishops. He and Mae were later called to the St. Louis, Missouri Mission, but just before leaving the MTC, Jack became ill. They did however have the privilege to serve two missions as ordinance workers at the St. George, Utah LDS Temple. ack had a zest for life, and his happy attitude endeared both children and adults alike, to him. He made lifelong friends, wherever he went. He loved to socialize and found great enjoyment visiting with anyone who had time to visit. He had a quiet and unpretentious manner. His legacy will live on in the lives of his children. We celebrate our father, we honor this man who has influenced us and led us through example. He provided a good moral example to his children. He was our mentor. Jack is survived by his wife, Mae Pollock Chynoweth, Tropic, UT; children, Jack Evan (Carolyn) Chynoweth, Bloomington; Deanna (Scott) Linford, Magna; Kristine (James) Milne, St. George; Randa Kay (Robert) Ott, Logandale, NV; 26 grandchildren, and 46 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lula Moore, Henrieville; Roxanne Johnson, Cannonville; brother, Ralph (Leal) Chynoweth, Henrieville; brother-in-law, Brownie Blackwell, Layton; sisters-in-law, Maryetta Chynoweth, Tropic; and Mary Chynoweth, Henrieville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Roxie Chynoweth; brothers, Leland (Bud) Chynoweth, Gene Chynoweth, Wade Chynoweth; sisters, Nelda Jolley, Lois Blackwell, Katie Morton; sister-in-law, Darlene Blackwell; brothers-in-law, Virgil Jolley, Vars Nielson, Frank Moore, John Morton, Golden Johnson; son-in-law, Bruce James Rose; daughter-in-law, Judith Ann Twitchell; grandsons, Roger Bruce Rose, Alex Milne and Don Milne; great-grandsons, Swade Dace and Kayson Miller. It has been a long journey Dad, but we will see you again. We give a special thanks to Hospice Alliance and the Beehive Home. Funeral services will be held Friday October 5, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Tropic LDS Ward Chapel. Friends and family can call at the ward chapel in Tropic Friday from 10:00 a.m. til 12:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Tropic City Cemetery, with full military rights, by American Legion, Post #18.
