Jade Douglas Obituary

Jade Lin Douglas 1960 ~ 2009 Jade Lin Douglas, 48, slipped the chains of earthly bonds to soar with eagles May 19, 2009.He is survived by his wife, Robin Theresa Douglas, and his son, Logan Jade Douglas (six). Jade was a wonderful and amazing man. He loved life with passion, joy and enthusiasm. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hiking in the Southern Utah backcountry, scuba diving, biking, travel, photography and sharing his love with everyone he met. Jade never met a person he didn't call a friend. His compassion, kindness, love and joy will never be forgotten. He always saw the good in everyone and everything. His laughter and his hugs will be missed by all of us who knew him. Jade was an amazing father, patient, gentle and kind. His family was his greatest joy. He was Logan's best friend and playmate. Jade, we love you and we will miss you. Until we meet again, good bye Adventure Man. A viewing will be held at Tate Mortuary in Tooele, on Saturday, May 23, 2009 from 4-6 p.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Heritage West Credit Union in the name of Logan Douglas.

Robin and Logan, This is Jades Aunt Harriett. I have known Jade since he was a new born babe, and he was just a few weeks older than my youngest son, his cousin Bradley. Jades Mother Gloria was my oldest sister. She had wanted to have children even though she wasn't well. Doctors had advised against any pregnancies, but she didn't listened to them and she had son Mark, then to her joy, came Jade.He was very special he loved his parents Clarence and Gloria very much.Since we lived in California and they in Utah we visited as often as possible so the cousins ( my 5) could know each other.Jade and Brad had made plans to go scuba diving the week before he passed away! Brad was heart broken when he heard the terrible news, as were all his cousins and Aunt and Uncle in Ohio. So Robin and Logan I pray that we can still be part of your and Logans lives. Please don't forget us and come visit? Love Aunt Harriett

Jade made you feel all was right with the world.
His optimism and energy always astonished me.
Jade was just an all around ‘good’ person.
He was the kind of person you knew you could trust with anything.
Jade made the world and at least my days brighter just simply by being in it.
He is dearly missed but I am sure on the other side, Jade is brightening that day.
Jade until we meet again…

I moved to Utah after retiring from the military and worked with Jade in the old EAI Laboratory in the South Area. We came from very different backgrounds and had nothing in common but yet we became fast friends.
Jade liked to play jokes on people and set up quite an elaborate one to get me when I returned from being out of the office for a few days. He attached a plastic bag full of glitter to the inside of my office door so that it would fall on my head when it was opened. The idea was good but the outcome was different then he had hoped. The glitter fell harmlessly on the floor in front of me. However, I turned the joke around on him and cleaned up everything and acted like nothing had happened when he came in that morning. Later in the day he finally admitted to the prank and I admitted to my part also.
We shared a lot of laughs and those will never be forgotten.
Robin, you and Logan are in my prayers everyday.

My very deepest and sincerest condolences to both Robin and Logan at this terrible time.

I never met Jade, but did get to hear about some of his adventures and gain a little understanding of the kind of person he was through Robin’s forum posts. He seemed like the kind of person this world needs a lot more of and I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing.

Robin, I know from some of your posts how much Jade meant to you and I can’t even imagine what you must be going through at the moment. No words can heal your pain right now, but I wish upon you all the strength and support you need to get both yourself and Logan through this tragic event.

Jade, you once asked me if you were a good father. I told you that you were an awesome father. This should erase any doubt you ever had. The words are Logan's. I merely put them down for him.

Logan's Song for His Dad

Daddy is a good man
He always plays with us
He always plays games and he always helps Mom
He always goes swimming with me
And he always brings water guns so we can squirt each other
I wish he was still alive
so we can play with my snot shot gun and my big water gun.

It has taken me several days to figure out what I wanted to say because the shock of knowing of Jade's passing felt like the rug had been pulled out from under me ..but I found a poem that I had written last year that seems fit the mood I am in now. Before I do though I just wanted to write a few things about how this incredible man helped me. I'm sure that Jade was an inspiration to those who knew him. For me personally, he encouraged me to find my potential and to keep going no matter how hard the trial. He was a great confidant and friend. He sympathized with me while I was in pain and took the time to listen and to give his imput. He believed in me and helped others recognize my accomplishments.
There are still things I wish I could share with him if he were still here, but perhaps on the other side he knows my thoughts. God be with you Jade and the ones you left behind....We miss you...until we meet again....

Souls united in love
Tender Hearts Here To Stay
And God?s love radiates from above
Rainbows cascaded all around
Made by those who have passed on
To the beat of the of the heavenly song
Pondering its deep meaning, I strum to a happy throng
Pining to be among the spirits who left their legacy.

It's hard to find the right words. I only met Jade relatively briefly in Vancouver last year but his huge personality made a big impact on me. I will never forget his friendly, kind, generous nature and marvelous sense of humor and fun. He and Robin struck me as a wonderful couple who had a strong, binding relationship and I know Robin and Logan will very much miss his presence and mourn his sudden loss.

Robin, I feel deeply for you and Logan. Jade will be sorely missed.

I met you and Jade on my very first day working for the Army. We have been in each other's lives ever since and have always been great friends. I have so many great memories of you, Jade, and I. And those memories always bring a smile to my face and joy to my heart. I'll miss Jade for a million reasons. And I'll pray for comfort and peace for you and Logan.

Robin and Logan, I was so shocked when I heard about Jade's passing. I had just talked to him that morning when he called me from the dentist's office. He was such a good father and husband to both of you and loved you so much. He was a good friend and co-worker. He will be sorely missed here at work. He was especially kind and thoughtful to me. He was always appreciative of anything one did for him. I will miss his smile, his laugh and his wonderful sense of humor. Robin, know that my thoughts are with you at this sad time. I know you have the faith and strength to see you through this.

From The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch; "...there's a decision we all have to make, and it seems perfectly captured in the WInnie-the-Pooh characters created by A.A. Milne. Each of us must decide: Am I a fun-loving Tigger or am I a sad-sack Eeyore?" The legacy left behind by Jade is that of a Tigger. HIs laugh, his smile and his enthusiasm for life will be missed by all he touched. And there is no greater gift Jade could have given all of us. In honor of Jade's brief life, there is no greater gift we can give Logan and Robin but the memory of what a great man his father and her husband was. Jade we love you and you will be missed.

Nothing I can say or do
Can lift the burden from a heart
That longs for comfort, such as yours.
But faith can give a hope that soars:
The promise of a better part,
Where loved ones go to wait for you.

Your life can hardly be the same,
For you have lost a battle, now;
But you will win the final war
When this short life unlocks a door
To fuller days, and keeps a vow
Unmarred by grief or tears or pain.

It's difficult to put into a few words how much Jade meant to everybody who knew him. I loved his wacky sense of humor...those games of nerts, or Yatzhee over the table after another Gepp family Christmas. Or the camping and 4 wheeling stories he would share. It's these memories that will keep him alive in our hearts.

Jade, we'll miss you.
