Jake Penney Obituary
July 26, 1945 ~ Aug. 24, 2016
Jake Dozier Penney was born at home to B.A. and Edna Merle Dozier Penney in Forney, Texas. "Jakie", as his mom called him, was born the third of five boys. "Jakie" attended schools in Forney where he played football and played in the school band. He later earned his Bachelor's in Accounting from the University of North Texas.
Jake and Clara married and had two children together. They later divorced. Jake worked as an accountant for Shell Oil in New Orleans and Houston, later moving to Denver and working for Anschutz Oil. In 1983 the mountains brought him to Salt Lake City, where he worked for Utah State Tax Commission, also meeting his future wife, Janice Doran. They married in 1986. Jake loved and raised Jann's children as his own. Jake loved skiing, hiking, mountain biking, backpacking, photography, roller coasters and music. He knew every group Eric Clapton and Robert Plant ever played in. He was very fascinated with and watched endless documentaries on World War II. Jake was a forever-dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys, no matter how hard it was at times. Aside from family, one of Jake's greatest loves was soccer, especially watching Skyler play soccer. Go Sparta! Jake also very much enjoyed building and fixing computers with his son Chris. Jake was witty and the sole source of useless information and endless silly puns. He was also kind, forgiving and never judgmental. He loved frito pie, an assortment of junk food, and would make countless trips to the store just for a bottle or Sprite. We will miss him always and forever.
Jake is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Aubry Penney, Bill Penney, Howard Penney and Duffy. Survived by his wife, Jann Penney and his brother Richard Penney, sisters in law Glenda and Debbie Penney.
Also survived by his five children; Christopher Penney, Jennifer Galindo (Michael), Michael Doran (Cameo), Scott Doran (Janae) and Lori Dalton. Also survived by 11 grandchildren; Skyler Doran (Sabrina), Korbyn Doran, Kooper Doran, Kenzli Doran, Logan Doran, Mila Doran, Sephian Penney, Penelope Dalton, Nicholas Dalton, Sierra Samaniego, Ivan Galindo and several nieces and nephews. Also survived by four canine grandchildren; Charlie, Roxy, Molly and Carter. In honor of Jake's wishes the family will not hold services.
There will be a family celebration in the fall as the leaves begin to change. Your pain is over and ours begins. Goodbye sweet Jakie.
