James Manwill Obituary

James V.Manwill 11/15/1931 ~ 9/9/2004 James Vearl Manwill, age 72 passed away September 9th at his home in Murray, Utah. He was born November 15, 1931, in Salt Lake City to Vearl James Manwill and Iva Melissa Green Manwill. On April 28, 1950, James married his loving, caring wife of 54 years, Lorina Lee Davis (Tiny). James will be greatly remembered for his sense of humor, and a "joke of the day" for everyone he encountered! He kept a smile on everyone's face. His jokes will be missed, but his humor will live within us forever. James attended Granite High School and Utah Technical College. He was a member of the LDS Church. At the time of his retirement, James was second generation owner and president of Manwill Plumbing and Heating, the same company in which he had served as general manager throughout his career. He served as Director of the Utah Independent Contractors Association, Advisor of Community College Construction program, Secretary-Treasurer of the Utah Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Association, Boy Scouts leader in the Central Park Ward and was also associated with many other organizations. James enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting, fishing in Alaska and family outings at his cabin in Scofield. He took great pride in showing off his beautiful flower gardens and sharing his vegetables. His most special moments were those spent with his family. James and his wife, Tiny, raised five fantastic children. He is survived by his wife; and children, Stephanie (Stevie) Beesley (Ron), Jim Manwill (Terry), Frankie Casto (Kent), Jamee Christensen (Ray); 12 grandchildren; and 3.5 great-grandchildren; his brother, Paul Manwill; and sisters, Carma Coulam, Bonnie Summers, and Luana Pearson. Preceded in death by his daughter, Marci Street; two granddaughters, Jennifer Street and Natalie Christensen; and a son-in-law, Ronald E. Jackson. Thanks to the medical staff that gave so much. A special thanks to Carol at Dr. Anderson's office and also to the cancer staff at Utah Cancer Specialists. Dad, we love you, and until we're together again, we'll always remember, "You did it your way!" Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Dr. SLC, UT. Friends may call Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. and 8:45-9:45 a.m. prior to service. Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Dear Manwill Family,

Carolyn and I send our deepest sympathy to you. In the early 1960s Manwill Plumbing shared the same radio frequency as our Electric Company and we had a lot of good times together. Jim and I spent many a cold morning sitting in a sink box waiting for the ducks to come in or laying under a sheet in a snow covered grain field waiting for the geese to fly in. We enjoyed many a great time together and still tell stories to friends about some of the funny incidents we shared. Jim was a great person and will be missed by all who knew him. I'm glad I was fortunate enough to have known both Jim and his father and shared a friendship with them.

For Stephanie:

I was in your class at MHS. I always liked you and appreciated the friendliness you showed to everyone, not just the "popular kids" like yourself. I lost my mother last month so I can relate to your feelings. Thank heavens we do have memories, sometimes they're funner than the present.

God's blessings to you and your family.

Sincerely,

A friend from MHS

I have some great memories of James and your family, growing up on the ‘circle’ and the summers spent at Scofield. He had a great sense of humor and I would often wonder, “Is he kidding or is he serious?” It was hard not be gullible.

I am sorry for your loss. May peace be with you.

Dear Tiny and family,

I just got a phone call from my brother Hal informing me of your loss. I am so sorry to hear about Jim, he was a good man and a great neighbor. I hope all is well with each of you...I seem to hear each commercial Jim does on the radio and it sounds like all is well with you...I miss going to Washington, but always remember Frankie and her family up there and hear good things about them and their busy lives in the great Northwest...And it has been a real pleasure to get to know Jamie and her family in the neighborhood, you all were very good to us and we wish each of you the deepest Love our Heavenly Father can offer and pray that you will be blessed with comfort and understanding at this difficult time. God bless each of you

Tiny, Jim, Terri & the rest of the wonderful Manwill family:

James was a wonderful person, whose presence at company events made all smile. I will always remember his wonderful jokes & his quick wit. Jeremy & I will definitely miss him - but will think fondly of knowing him for so many years.

Much love.

Dear Manwill family;

It has been many years since we grew up on 27th south together. I was a kid in pigtails and James was a very handsome fellow. He and Tiny made such a handsome couple. I have always remember all of the family some more than others. I used to baby sit for James and Tiny's first two children. My name was Vatsend then. much has happened in all of the years. My heart goes out to all of you. This a very trying time in your life. My sincere condoences to all of you.

Love to you

We have lived next door to James and Lorine since December 1998, but it didn't take us a week to begin to appreciate James' wonderful sense of humor and his impeccable interest in and concern for us as neighbors. Most of the reason we have felt so much a part of this neighborhood is due to our interactions with him and his wife, and we really believe he exemplifies the finest possible definition of "good neighbor." We will miss him very much indeed. Our prayers are with all his family.

Love,

Maureen and Brie

What a great picture of James! Even though it has been many years I always remember him with that casual smile and twinkle in his eye. Time goes by so fast yet it seems like just yesterday we all grew up together on MarJane Avenue! My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time. My regards to the Manwill Family.
