Jeanette Wilson Obituary

Jeanette R. Wilson

1932 - 2023

Salt Lake City resident, Jeanette Ripplinger Wilson, age 91, passed peacefully on December 1, 2023, surrounded by family.

She received her Bachelor's from Utah State University and her Master's in Child Development from the University of Iowa. Her natural intelligence and sharp mind ensured her unofficial "PhD in lifelong learning." Books were her constant companion and she delighted in recommending or asking for recommendations for her ever expanding Audible collection.

As an educator, Jeanette helped shape the lives of thousands of children and young people. She retired at 70 and continued tutoring into her 80s, staying in contact with former students and their families till the last days of her life.

Jeanette traveled five continents, to dozens of countries, inviting her siblings, children and grandchildren to join her in learning of diverse cultures and traditions.

Ever generous with time, knowledge and carefully curated gifts, Jeanette lived through friendships and associations. Even in her last days she came to life when dear friends were near–she would perk up and "put on a show." Loyal to friends, she and her Iowa group still met regularly after 50 years of association.

On Jeanette's behalf, the family would like to thank all of those who have loved and supported her over many decades.

A memorial service for her will be held at a future date. Jeanette will be interred at a graveside service for close friends and family in the Bates Cemetery, basking in the beauty of her beloved Teton Valley.

She is survived by her sister Diane Pope and brothers Donald, Leon and Mark Ripplinger; children Pier Larsen and spouse Paul, Britt Bills and spouse Mark, Dirk Wilson and spouse Donna Blore Wilson, and Leif Guy Wilson; grandchildren Dane Larsen, Jens Larsen, Teal Chidester, Kess Larsen, Tyler Bills, Devin Bills, Mason Bills, Hailey Keenan, Christopher Wilson, Helen La Fevre, Peter Wilson, Cameron Wilson, Andrew Wilson, and Emily Jeanette Wilson; great grandchildren Magnus, Greta and Aoife Chidester, Rhus, Kels and Llyr Larsen, and Dylan La Fevre.

Our family loved Mrs. Wilson. She was such an amazing teacher. She loved her students! If you were in her class you were hers. She shared her life experiences and her love of reading. She taught her students to care for one another. She would take the time to listen to the kids. We will never forget her. She's a legend and one of a kind.
