Jeanne Hendry Obituary
Jeanne Whipp Hendry
1926 - 2025
Magna, UT-Jeanne, a loving and caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away on September 9, 2025 at the age of 98.
Jeanne was born to Walter and Alice Whipp in the mining town of Telegraph in Bingham Cayon, Utah. Growing up, Jeanne lived in Panguitch, Cedar City and Midway with her parents and brother Fenton moving back to Salt Lake City to be with extended family. Jeanne graduated from South High School where she made lifelong friends. After high school she worked in accounting at New York Life. After her daughters were grown she worked at JC Penny and Memorial Estates.
Jeanne married Gordon Hendry in Memory Grove. With this marriage came the Hendry brothers, George, Grant and Gilmer and their wife's Doris, Gwen and Nelda who were like sisters. Throughout their lives many memories were made with the Hendry clan, family and friends camping, fishing, houseboat trips and traveling to Mesquite, Santa Clara and Hawaii. Jeanne also traveled with her daughters and grandchildren on many trips to the Caribbean, Colorado, Disneyworld, and Monument Valley.
Mom was an amazing mother to her three daughters. Mom set the bar high for us to learn how to make amazing, cakes, candies and dinner from "scratch". Unfortunately, we never achieved her greatness. She taught through example to be kind, loving and independent. We cherish many wonderful memories of vacations visiting State and National Parks of Utah and surrounding states.
Jeanne and Gordon raised their girls in Magna. They lived in a wonderful neighborhood where she made lifelong friends with Helen, Fern, Ila and Jane. After Gordon's sudden passing in 1994, Jeanne continued to stay active bowling, gardening, reading and sharing her cakes and candies with family, friends and neighbors. Mom was a huge part of her grandchildren's lives, picking them up from school to watch PBS and eat cheese and cracks, supporting them in figure skating, soccer and giving advice as they started families of their own. She was also able to enjoy her four great grandchildren.
Jeanne is survived by her brother in-law Gilmer, daughters Susan, Kaye (Joy) and Renae (Dennis). Three grandchildren Dylan, Maia (Patrick), Devin (Ashley) and four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband Gordon, brother Fenton, brother and sister in-laws.
A private family graveside service was held at Valley View Memorial Park in West Valley City on September 19th, 2025
