JEREMIAH MILLINER Obituary

Jeremiah K. Milliner 5/13/1976 ~ 3/24/2011 We are saddened by the sudden death of our beloved Jeremiah K. Milliner. He died tragically Thursday morning while hard at work providing for his family. The Man!!! Jeremiah is a loving, amazing Husband, Father, Son, Grandson, Brother, a hero and friend to everyone whose life he touched. Jeremiah was born in Salt Lake City Utah on May 13th 1976, to Kathy Milliner. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Dan Hansen, as well as his grandparents Ken and Marilyn Milliner. He is survived by his beloved wife Natalee Milliner and their two children, Cameron and Samantha. He is also survived by his loving mother Kathy Milliner, Grandma Dee, Dad and Mom Reynolds, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, family and close friends. Jer had such a passion for his family. He always put everyone else before himself. He never missed one soccer game for his beloved son, Cam, and was always excited to watch his precious daughter, Sami, grow and excel in gymnastics. Jer just loved being with his family and friends and was an incredible example to those around him. He had such a powerful gift of service and never crossed a path that didn't result in a life-long friendship. Jeremiah was a true craftsman. He was incredibly successful as a "Project Foreman" for his life-long friend Alex Short, owner of AK Masonry. Alex expressed how much more he needed Jer, than Jer needed him. He took pride in his work and it really showed. Many of his co-workers knew him as "Jerry." He was up before the sun would rise and never ended the day before the work was done, not only on the job site but at home as well. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 East 10600 South in Sandy on Monday March 28th. The funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 29th, at the Herriman West Stake Center 13768 South 6400 West and will begin at 12 Noon, where there will be a viewing before the funeral from 10:45-11:45 a.m. Following the funeral services the interment will take place at Herriman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, an account has been set up at Zions National bank under "Jeremiah Milliner Donations." Also, on behalf of Jeremiah and his service to others the family has asked that each of us reach out to those in need of any kind of service. We can all do a little more for someone else in need. That is what Jer would really want.

I came into the mission field in October of 1996. I drove from downtown Chicago to my first area in Aurora. We pulled up to a place called the Herbie House that a couple members owned. Elder Milliner and his missionary companion Elder Donaldson lived in that apartment that I was to share with my trainer Elder Tobler. I remember the first day in Aurora, walking into the apartment and Elder Milliner giving me a cold long stare as I walked up stairs to greet everyone. He was carving some wood with a knife and said "what are you doing here?" In a very intimidating fashion, I must admit that I was a little more than intimidated by him and his 1950's haircut. Before I could answer he said "just kidding" and laughed the fun unique way he always did and then introduced himself. I spent 2 or 3 months with him in that apartment and then another 2 months in an apartment with him in DeKalb. He was always a very determined person, straight up and never mincing words. I really liked that about him because he was always very honest about the way he felt about everything. He also had a very big heart and loved those who he taught, no matter what their problem was or what they did in life, Elder Milliner could connect with these people and others in a way I noticed that most elder's couldn't. He was a very inspiring and unique individual. I always enjoyed hearing him talk, because it always seemed to lighten the mood. I'm very grateful to have known him, he's one of the missionaries I remember most and would always find myself thinking over the years of how Elder MIlliner was doing. I see him in the hereafter giving whoever he's talking to right now a hard time and then laughing together with that person. He was truly a great man and my prayers are with you all at this time.

I often reflect on the events and people that God has used in my past to bring me to where I am today..and always through the years Elder Jeremiah Milliner comes to my mind. A troubled teen I was, growing up without the gospel, with longings for significance and love which can only be found in..GOD THE FATHER and OUR LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. A whole year went by, I have gone through all the discussions taught by several missionaries that came and went. I established a firm testimony of the gospel, however, I felt there was no need to get baptized anytime soon because I felt I was in a pretty good place. One missionary in particular did not give up on me..ELDER MILLINER, recognized how much more ready I was to commit to being baptized than I knew myself. I will never forget that defining moment when the convincing power of the Holy Ghost spoke through Elder Milliner...he read to me out of The Book of Mormon- Now I say unto you, if this be your hearts what have you against being baptized in the name of the LORD! {Mosiah 18:10} WOW! Never did any scripture hit me so hard right between the eyes at that moment! After being moved by the spirit, I quickly committed myself to baptism that day. I was then baptized on July 27th 1997. He was transfered shortly after and had gone on splits with Elder Maxson. He was serving in the Dekalb, Il. area but one evening he happened to come through Elgin, Il. where I lived at the time. He dropped by to say hello to my mother and I. That was also the same night when he was on splits and brought Elder Maxson over and introduced me to him. The man which would soon become my husband 2 years later...Thank you Elder J. Milliner for sharing in my conversion, for your friendship, and for your unfailing example that has impacted my life and many others forever. You are much loved and will be greatly missed.

Natalee,
Words cannot express how deeply saddened I am for your loss. I pray that Heavenly father works quickly on mending both you and your children's broken hearts... Please find comfort in knowing Heavenly father is keeping him safe until you all can be reunited once again. May God bring peace and comfort to your beloved family during this difficult time.

Love and God's blessings,
Julie Maxson

I would like to send my condolences to the Milliner family and AK Masonry family. Jeremiah was an amazing man, whose positive attitude brought all those around him up. It is hard to recall ever a time when I did not see a smile on Jeremiah's face. His incredible willingness to work hard and get the job done is a quality that his hard to find. I will miss Jeremiah and all his positive qualities on each and every construction site we have. I always knew when he was on the job things would be done right.
My heart is full of sorrow that such a wonderful guy, who made a difference in so many of our lives, is gone. We are all blessed to have known him. I will miss him as both a friend and colleague.

Here is a photo of Elder Milliner and I at transfers winter of 97', last time I saw Elder Milliner. We served in the North Chicago, Il Mission. We served near each other when he was in Dekalb and I was in Rochelle. We both went to the dekalb/sycamore building. He was a great missionary and loved serving our Savior. When not teaching the gospel his thoughts were with Natalee. He said he loved her beautiful hair. He introduced me to Julie Martin, who he taught the gospel to and who was baptized July of 97'. In 99' Julie and I were married. Thank you Jeremiah for the great times and for introducing me to my wonderful wife. Your great example has made a great impact on everyone you have come in contact with.

I was new in construction and very intimidated by many of the "guys" I would come across on construction sites, my biggest job to date was with AK Masonry and Jeremiah was in charge of this job and he made me feel very comfortable around him and never made me feel stupid when I am sure he could have... He was so nice to me and easy to work with, I am sick about what happened and the only peace I have is knowing that there is life after death and that families are eternal, I pray to God that your family may be protected and comforted until you are all reunited once again.

With much respect,

March 27, 2011

I have never met Jeremiah or Natalee but they touched my life in March 2008. My sister passed away and she left behind 3 children. Me being a single mother of 2 myself took the kids in. I did not have anything for the children, or enough money and had no idea how I was going to make it. Christmas time came and was really not sure how I was going to do Christmas. My childhood friends did a sub for santa for my family and Of course I never knew who helped. I just found out today that Jeremiah and Natalee contributed clothes, gift cards and food to my family. I of course didn't get to tell either of you thank you..so thank you from bottom of my heart! Losing a loved one is incredibly hard and nothing that is said evey makes you feel better, but please know you are in my thoughts and I am deeply saddened by his passing. Know he is always with you. God bless you all.

Dear Natalee-
It is so amazing how one person can touch so many lives... Jeremiah was someone who had such a "comfortable" way about him that from the first time you met him, he felt like a friend.
Most of my memories of him were times at Alex's - and every time I saw Jeremiah, he was always smiling! That sort of represents who he was- a friendly, happy guy!
Please know my heart is with you and your family...

As builders of your world we never know when the last brick will be laid or the final grout will be poured. My deepest sympathy to his family, friends, Alex, Keith & the rest of the staff @ AK Masonry not to mention the entire Masonry community, we have all lost an incredible man !
