Jim Sondrup Obituary

Jim Sondrup

1934 ~ 2023

Salt Lake City, UT-James "Jim" Lawrence Sondrup died peacefully at his home in Salt Lake City on October 3, 2023. Jim

was born on December 1, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Iris Bailey Sondrup and Jack Erland

Sondrup.

Jim attended William Penn Elementary, Granite Junior High and Granite High School. In 1956

Jim served a year of active duty in the U.S. Navy Reserve aboard the USS Haven as a Hospital

Corpsman Third Class. He was discharged early in December of 1956 due to his father's illness.

Jim had a long career with the Salt Lake County Fire Department, retiring in 1996 with 36 years

of service and the rank of Captain. Everyone liked Jim and he had many, many friends. When his

health allowed he enjoyed going to breakfast with his retired buddies from the Fire

Department.

Jim loved being married and did it five times to Lorraine, Marie, Pat, Linda and Zahyra. Jim was a

member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Iris Sondrup. He is survived by his sons, Todd

and Tracy Sondrup and grandson Cameron Sondrup, sister, Virginia Gossling of Mesa, AZ,

brother Reid (Nan) and stepdaughter Sheri Houston. Jim is also survived by the children of Linda

(Trent, Stacey, Wendy and Robin), the wife to whom he was married the longest. Special thanks

to his newest adult stepchildren, Gabriel, Jennifer and Diana for their thoughtful care of him in his

last days.

A private burial will be held at the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery where his cremated remains will lie

close to those of his mother and father. A celebration of life is pending at a later date.

What a great generous friend and co worker. So many memories and good times. Squint was always game for a good time, whether it was working at the fire station or riding motorcycles. His smile and kindness will be missed by many. Thanks for your friendship!
