John Fletcher Obituary

John William Fletcher

1955 ~ 2022

Farmington, UT-John William Fletcher "Fletch" passed away suddenly on August 16, 2022, with his loving family by his side. He was born on May 18, 1955, to Al and Wanda where he grew up in Salt Lake City (Rose Park) in a loving home with his sister Judy and brother Craig. He met his wife Lori on a snowy October day in 1972 at West High School. Apparently, John's parking lot shift had ended and as he passed Lori's car this tall, handsome guy caught her eye. She quickly scooped up a snowball and threw it hitting him on his backside. He turned around and the rest is history. John and Lori were married May 25. 1973 and spent 49 wonderful years together. They had two loving and caring children, Dustin and Alicia.

John worked at a small refinery, Caribou Oil until he was hired on September 21, 1982, by Chevron Salt Lake Refinery where he held various positions including Refinery Operations, Training, Process Safety Management Coordinator (PSM) and safety on the STARR/SIG project. He also served as the local Union President for Chevron in the early 90's where he negotiated the first 12-hour shift schedule implemented at the Salt Lake Refinery. In 1997, John began an adventurous new career with Saudi Chevron Petrochemical as a Utility Shift Leader and then was promoted as the Training Dept. Manager. Saudi Chevron was considered the premier project success and was the first privately owned chemical plant in Saudi Arabia at that time. John was grateful for the many long-lasting friendships that were made as a result of employment at both refineries. Due to John's employment in Saudi Arabia, John and Lori were able to travel extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East that resulted in many amazing and unforgettable memories. On June 28, 2018, John retired and was excited to be able to spend more time with his family and friends.

At precisely 10:00 am you could count on John taking his 2-mile walk. The weather never deterred him as he always wore his "winter shorts". People would often approach him asking if he realized it was freezing with snow on the ground and he would reply, "I'm okay I have my winter shorts on." John's unique sense of humor and quick wit often caught many off guard including his family, until the very end. His eyes always lit up whenever his grandchildren visited. They always brightened his day. He loved and appreciated each one of them for their own unique personalities. They affectionately referred to him as "Grampie". In short, John was a loving, caring and generous family man, whom will be sorely missed and will live in our hearts forever.

John is survived by his loving wife, Lori and children Dustin (Carrie), Alicia (Dan), 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, sibling Judy (Gary) as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Wanda and brother Craig.

A visitation will be held at Russon Mortuary, 1941 N. Main St., Farmington, Utah on Friday, September 9th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Dress casual as that's what John would have preferred.

The family would like to thank the staff at Utah Valley Hospital (9th floor) for their support and kindness they showed to John and his family. In lieu of flowers consider a donation to your favorite charity. Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com.

I loved working with John! He was one of my absolute favorite people to work with due to his kindness, his humor, and his straight forward, no nonsense way of talking. We often swapped grandchildren stories. He was a true blessing to be around. Much love to you all in this time.
