Sister Rencher,

I’ve been thinking so much about you and your family over the last several days. I’ve been praying for peace and comfort to be with you and your family. I’m sorry I couldn’t be there in person this week but I wanted to tell you that I love you and wish you well at this difficult time.

I have been reflecting on the fondest of feelings and memories I have growing up around you and your family. I still remember the first time you handed me a thick slice of home made bread hot out of the oven! I remember times when you and Brother Rencher lovingly quizzed me about my ideas and plans for the future. Most of all I remember that I was always included and welcome in your family.

I’m lucky to have made friends with Jaren at an early age; he has always been a true fiend to me. I’m grateful for the wonderful experience of growing up under you and your husband’s influence. I remember the patience John showed me in teaching me how to water ski and later I appreciated seeing the tenderness he displayed in the friendship you and he shared with my grandmother in her later years.

Much love,
Christopher Fordham

I was sad to learn of John's passing. Right along with Jaryl, John was also my friend during my Jr. High years. I cherish the memories of sleepovers, waterskiing, the Sea Ray and just his sense of humor. And the Betamax tapes! Oh, I miss him already.

I hope you can all feel comfort at this time of John's passing. He will be remembered as a kind and thoughtful man. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It is with great sadness and a sense of loss that I write this, yet I haven't seen either John or Sharon for almost 30 years. They were like second parents to me while I enjoyed the company of my best friend, Jaryl Rencher, at their home while in High School.

My greatest sympathies to the family, especially to you Jaryl and Julie. I greatly appreciated your father's kindness, love, joviality, and occasional advice.

My family is back in Utah now, central Utah. I'll see if I/we can make it up for the funeral.

With all our love...

To the Rencher Family, I was John's woodshop teacher at Highland High. I'm not sure who really taught whom. I do know John showed me how truely gracious and thankful one human being could be towards others. I am deeply sadened by your loss and will always hold next to my heart the memories of kindness your father shared with me.

John and Sharon were like grandparents to myself and my family. they were the first family we knew in the States when we moved here. I loved them dearly and am very sad that I wasn't able to visit as much as I should have. I will miss John, he was a great person and loving spirit.
