John Warner Obituary

John D. Warner
Glenwood, Utah
On the morning of September 25, 2015, in Glenwood, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, John David Warner, 90, passed away after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born on June 15, 1925 in Richfield, Utah the 6th child of William Leroy and Martha Theurer Warner.
John served his country in WWII as a marine and fought in the South Pacific aboard the USS Maryland from 1943-45. After returning home he was called to serve in the Stockholm Sweden Mission but after a few short weeks he was sent into Finland to open that country to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Upon his return home he went to school at BYU where he met his sweetheart, Ruby English and they were married on December 15, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. In 1958 John was called back to Finland to be the mission president until 1961. He had many church callings during his life serving in bishoprics, stake presidency, high councils and being a dedicated home teacher.
John spent 18 years at the University of Utah as the administrator of the Bio-Medical Engineering department during the development of artificial organs. He pioneered the idea that kidney dialysis could be done outside of a hospital and spent several years taking patients on trips to Lake Powell and other locations throughout the world.
John and Ruby retired to Glenwood, Utah in 1996. He was happy to return to the area of his childhood where he could enjoy his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and pursue his lifelong passion of fishing.
John is survived by his wife Ruby, and children: Doug Warner, Debbie (Rich) Rucker, Diane Fullerton, Dwight (Lynda) Warner, Dixie (Shawn) Henrie. John has 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son David Michael Warner; and his siblings.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 12:00 Noon in the Glenwood Ward Chapel, 225 East Center. Warner Family,

I only met John a handful of times, the last time being at my own dad's funeral (Chad Parks). I did, however, hear stories from my dad about the two of them growing up and joining the Marines together, and am also very appreciative of the stories John shared at my dad's funeral service. They truly were part of the greatest generation. I am so sorry for your loss.
