Julie Herrick Obituary

1925 ~ 2016
On May 26, 2016 we lost our beloved matriarch Julie Ann Pyper Herrick. She passed away surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.
Julie was born July 1, 1925 to Edward Gerald and Louise Paxman Pyper. In her early years, growing up on a farm, she learned the values of hard work and dedication to family. These values influenced the direction of her life. As a teenager her family moved to SLC, UT. After graduating from East High, she attended the University of Utah supporting herself as a model and a medical assistant. There she met the love of her life, L. Paul Herrick. They were married January 5, 1954 and remained happily married for 49 years. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Throughout their marriage and in addition to their three children they built a successful business of rental properties. She displayed natural business acumen and after Paul's death in 2003 she continued to manage the family properties until her passing.
Julie immersed herself in raising her children, involving herself in youth sports. Known as "Little League Mom", she was the president of Indian Hills Baseball League. While serving as a Ute Conference Football Officer, Julie started collecting the scores for every game in the valley, reporting them for publication in the Salt Lake Tribune. Julie said this was the proudest accomplishment of her involvement in youth sports. Julie also served as the president of the Assistance League of SLC, a charity for children.
With the birth of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren she put her energy back into raising them, involving herself in their development, and continuing to nurture her family until the end.
Above all Julie was a woman of uncommon intellect, grace and style. Her countenance and demeanor reflected who she was and what she stood for. Julie always spoke her mind but her words always came from a place of truth, kindness and love. She will be missed dearly.
"Thanks Mema"
Julie is survived by her three children, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a brother, a sister and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at Larkin Mortuary, 2350 E 1300 S, Friday, June 3, 2016 from 10:00 -11:30 a.m. to be followed by a graveside service. In lieu of flowers please donate to woundedwarriorproject.org or NKUT.org

David, Jono and Cindy - I too add my condolences for the loss of a great lady. Your mom was the best and always made me feel like a winner. The days spent with Rod, Marlene, L. Paul, and Julie are some of my fondest memories - on the ball fields and off.
Take care,

Cindy, David, Jono and family, We are so sorry to hear about Aunt Julie's death. Memories of her keep coming back to me as my heart realizes she is gone... Reading about her involvement with Little League Baseball I remember riding around with her in some kind of big car to pick up gallons of orange drink and hundreds of McDonald's hamburgers, oh how that seemed like the most a amazing feat. Childhood dinners at the Nottingham house with a huge array of food, playing in your yard and basement, your little white dog and especially Aunt Julie's distinct voice, how I loved those times. How I loved Aunt Julie. I am so sorry and my heart is very sad.
