Justin Dredge Obituary

Justin Jeffrey Dredge
1986 - 2020
Justin Jeffrey Dredge, age 34, died on December 21, 2020 in Murray, Utah; due to injuries sustained while serving our country as a US Marine.
Justin was born January 29, 1986 in American Fork, Utah to Jeffrey Lynn Dredge and Denise Squire Dredge.
He grew up in Murray, Utah. He was a proud Eagle Scout through the Boys Scouts of America. He graduated from Murray High school in 2004. He enjoyed playing football, basketball, canyoneering, and riding motorcycles. He was very neat and like to have things organized. He was fun to be around and a great friend.
Justin proudly joined the United States Marine Corp. in 2005. He graduated Boot Camp from Camp Pendleton as the platoon guide as he received the Leatherneck Award. It was one of his proudest moments.
He wanted nothing more than to serve our country. He served three deployments, two of which were to Iraq. He served as an infantryman and later a squad radio operator. He was well liked and considered to be hardworking, proficient, and dependable.
One of his commanders said that he "will always be judged by his performance in Iraq, which was very courageous. The idea of a Marine at his age and experience, performing like that was unheard of. One day, come to mind, when our unit got hit with mortar fire, and I will always remember, PFC Dredge right there with his fellow Marines carrying wounded and doing everything in his power to do whatever it took to save his fellow Marines lives."
He was injured in the line of duty by the hand of a suicide bomber on February 7, 2007 after being med evacuated for 10 days and he requested to return to his unit. He later received the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged after four years of service to our country. Like any true Marine: once a Marine, always a Marine. Semper fidelis "always faithful."
Civilian life proved to be challenging due to his Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He fought valiantly and courageously to overcome these challenges. He was able to get his associates degree from Salt Lake Community College and was proud of that accomplishment.
He served the veterans community in the area by providing rides to fellow veterans that needed it. This brought much satisfaction to him.
He is survived by his parents, Jeffrey Lynn and Denise Squire Dredge. His siblings: Melissa (Steve) Callister of Texas, Jordan (Amy) Dredge, Trevor Dredge, and Jackelyn (McKay) Mann. His nieces and nephews: Allison, Amy, Jane C., Samuel, Jack, Kate, Jane D., and Rocklyn. Grandparents: Wilford Lynn and Annette Dredge, and Scott Squire.
Justin has a huge heart. He wanted to be a good example and help others. He loved to be with his nieces and nephews, and be with family when he could.
A private service will be held with family on December 30, 2020 at 11:00 AM, with streaming available. He will be laid to rest at Camp Williams in the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park with a public graveside service at 1:00 PM. Sending my deepest condolences to your family and expressing my sincerest gratitude to you for your service. Though I never had the opportunity to meet you as a man, I have favorable memories of you as a young teen, as your youth football coach over a 6 year period. To the Dredge family, I am tremendously sorry for your loss.

Sincerely,
Joshua Taeoalii.

Dear Jeff and Denise,
I was so sad to learn of the passing of your beloved son, Justin. I appreciate and honor the service of your handsome and courageous boy, who was willing to give the ultimate sacrifice to defend and preserve our freedoms. It is difficult to even imagine the pain and anguish he suffered from his traumatic experiences on the battlefield and to cope with the lingering results of the injuries he sustained. Often wounds that are not easily seen are the most difficult to understand, treat, and heal. He was a true hero. At the end of his mortal journey, I know he was welcomed by our Savior with His arms outstretched to enfold him with His love and His peace.
Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers as you cope with this tragic loss. I pray that you will find comfort and peace through cherished memories, love and support of family and friends, and the knowledge we share of our Heavenly Father’s Plan of Happiness and the infinite atonement of our Savior.
I love and admire both of you so much and value our friendship and personal relationship greatly. I hope that knowing that my heart aches for you and that I share in your sorrow will help to ease the pain of your burdens.
With love and deepest sympathy,
Pat Griffiths

This hurts a lot. Justin had a great personality that pulled just about anyone to liking him and wanting to be his friend almost instantly. I can think of at least two instances where Justin most likely saved my life or kept me from being seriously injured while in Iraq, wish I could have been there for him like he was for us.
