Kaye Bird Obituary

Kaye Bird

1938 - 2023

Kaye Marie Golatz Bird, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 3, 2023. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 6, 1938, to John and Clara Golatz.

She married her soulmate, Donald LaMoyne Bird, on September 22nd 1956, and had 5 kids that they raised in their forever home. Being a mother was everything she wanted, and her children always were her pride and joy. As the family homemaker, she was instrumental in making sure her 4 boys all achieved Eagle Scout status and was very proud of that. When the kids were grown, she spent her days working for her sister and brother-in-law at Toy Village. Kaye always enjoyed hosting family gatherings, even when family began spilling out of their home. Between the love in her home and her potato salad and Jello cake, she could bring anyone together. Outside of the home, she enjoyed frequent vacations camping and trips to Wendover, alongside her sweetheart and their children. You could always find her and her daughter, Melinda, bonding over penny slots.

Kaye is survived by her sons Donald (Kristie) Bird, Kevin (Sandy) Bird, Bryan Bird, and daughter Melinda Fryer; her sister Beverly; and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that loved her very much.

She is proceeded in death by her loving husband, parents, sisters Raye and Pat, son Randy, and grandson Jared.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 11th at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home at 12:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at Elysian Burial Gardens. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 10:00-11:30 AM. In the event you are not able to attend, the funeral will be broadcasted on https://jenkins-soffe.com/

We specifically want to thank Ashford Memory Care and Austin at Serenity Hospice for the kindness and care they provided to our loving mother and grandmother.

I grew up across the street from this wonderful family and was even their go to babysitter for awhile. I loved Kaye. She was so kind to our family. Until she was blessed with her daughter Melinda my sisters and I were her daughters. She delighted coming over to see us in our latest new dresses sewn by our mother. She always made such a fuss over us. I´m happy that she now joins her husband I Heaven.
