Lucille Simons Obituary

Lucille Carol Millis Simons passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on March 3, 2013. Lucy was born May 9, 1928 to Scott Shade and Jessie Carlson Millis. Lucy married her South High sweetheart, Spencer W. Simons on July 9, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah and later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. Lucy took great pride in her lifelong support of her husband and the raising of their four children. Lucy was a member of the LDS Church and held a number of positions in the Relief Society in Salt Lake City as well as Richland, Washington. Lucy had many talents, among them her love of music which she instilled in each of her children. Along with being a licensed beautician, she was well known as a seamstress, a world-class baker and as a gracious host. She had a passion for gardening. Her ability to grow beautiful flowers created a space of color and joy at each of their homes. Always looking to make a difference, Lucy was instrumental in the oversight and assembly of hundreds and hundreds of hand-made quilts that were donated to those in need around the world. Lucy was a gift to her family. She enjoyed talking about the adventures of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The conversation always brought a "twinkle" to her eyes. Our dear Lucy touched the lives of many and will be missed by everyone that was fortunate enough to know her.
Lucy is survived by her husband, Spencer Simons; children, Connie (Bill) McKee, Scott (Jennifer) Simons, Wendy Flath, Ted (Lisa) Simons; 9 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Lucy is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mildred Harris; brothers, Robert S. Millis, Scott S. Millis, and Clyde W. Millis.
Services will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 in the 18th North Ward Chapel, 135 "A" Street, Salt Lake City, Utah at 1:00 pm. Friends and family may call on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah from 6-8 pm and one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. Interment will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, Salt Lake City, Utah. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Humanitarian Fund (801) 240-1000.

Spence & family,

we are so sorry for your lose. We know she is in good hands now, though. We so wish we could have come over, but just too many big challenges these few days. But our hearts are with you. We (or at least Rob) will remember all the good times growing up, the boating that got me hooked for life, and especially the memory of my mother trying to water ski in Hyrum reservoir and ending up drinking half the lake. It too her months to get over that, but it's still a great memory. We send our love and best wishes.

Please accept out condolences for your immense loss of your lovely wife, Lucy. Although we have not been close or seen each other for some years you and the wonderful Simons family cousins have always meant a great deal to me and mine.
We are living is St. George so, please forgive my failing to attend Lucy's funeral.
