Marjorie Franz Obituary

Marjorie Young Franz
Beloved wife, mother, sister and friend
Marjorie Young Franz, age 67, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2013 with her children at her side. She fought ovarian cancer for 3 1/2 years with bravery, dignity, and grace, and those attributes carried her through to the end. Rest in peace, dear sweet Momma.
Margie was born in Salt Lake City on April 27, 1946 to George William Jr. & Phyllis Rosevear Young, the youngest of three children. After graduating from Highland High School, she earned an associates degree in dental assisting from Stevens-Henager College and worked in that profession before starting a family.
Margie married her sweetheart, John C. Franz, on June 5, 1970 at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They had a wonderful marriage and relationship. They had three children together. When John passed away in 1987, Margie soldiered on and raised the kids in the manner they had planned. She was a strong, independent lady who always cared for her family and home without missing a beat. She loved baking (banana bread her specialty), keeping her lovely home, Halloween, candied apples, cotton candy, hot cross buns, chocolate cake, diet Coke, her friends, a good laugh, her grandchildren and her faithful shih-tzu puppy, Sammy Doodles. Throughout the trials of her life, Margie always held her head high. She will be deeply missed.
Marjorie is survived by two children: Shane (Sharon) Franz and Shannon (Bryan) Strate; four adoring grandchildren: John, Paul, Vivienne and Daphne; her brother George W. Young III, "sister-cousin" Charlene Krell, and other family & wonderful friends. Preceded in death by her husband John, son Daniel, parents, sister Rosalind, close friends and her faithful canine companion Sammy.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mark Dodson, Dr. Elizabeth Prystas, the entire staff at Wasatch Oncology (who became dear friends) and caregivers. (The candy-apple photo is for you - thanks for giving us this time to make these wonderful memories.) Your loving care and concern made the burden of this journey much easier to bear.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday May 10th at 2:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E 1300 S. A viewing will be held on Thursday May 9th from 7:00-9:00 pm and one hour prior to the funeral. Interment at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please donate to www.HuntsmanCancer.org.
Until we meet again, we love you Mom!

Hi, Mom!

It´s been 12 years since you´ve been gone. Your 79th birthday was the other day. We are all older and wiser... grown up and growing up. The house has undergone changes, but not too many. It´s green, now. Your spirit is always here. We hear your laughter and quote you often. You were the strongest person I´ve ever known and I´ll never forget you. Help us to stay strong, wherever you are. I love you, momma. I miss our phone conversations and your advice.

Love you,

ShanShan XOXO

Dear Shannon, Shane and families,

Our thoughts are certainly with you, as we also mourn the loss of your sweet Mom. We will miss her "nightly" summer walks around our corner with Sammy, and the fun talks we enjoyed so much. She was a great lady and loved each one of you. We admired and loved her, and send our heartfelt sympathy. She will truly be missed.

You have been so good to your Mom! We hope you find comfort in the special memories we know you have, the knowledge of the great reunion with your sweet Dad and Danny, as well as other family, and that she no longer is suffering.

Much love to you!

I grew up in a "Leave it to Beaver" neighborhood where the Nelsons, Ozzie and Harriett, lived just down the street. I was a card-carrying member of the "Busy Bee Sewing Circle" that Marge named. We had meetings and laughed. Somehow I don't think we ever got around tot the needle and thread events. I knew John at Westmini and spent a year trading pick ups at Wasatch Preschool. I have such nice memories of your mother. She always made me smile!!

Shane, My son Paul, tearfully told me of your mother's passing. It was accompanied by the tender hug, as instructed. I know your hearts are breaking right now; but I also know a little bit of what was in your mother's heart these last three-and-half years. I hope it brings you peace to know how important that time was to her, too. That love, after all, is what matters. God's blessings to you all. Ann Boyden

My love and condolences to the family. Margie was truly a light and life to us all. I was so inspired by our conversations as we talked over the phone. I moved from Utah over 30 years ago! But always had a special place in my heart for cousin Margie. My sister, Cheryl and cousin Linda always continued to be close for many years. My Grandmother Smith (Amelia Young) was her aunt. As I remember being only a small child, I recall Margie's brother Georgie would stop by and visit now and then. My condolences to him as well. We are all so blessed to have Margie touch each our lives. I will greatly miss her. Love to you all.

Dear Shane and Shannon, We are so sad to hear about Margie. (Marjorie, I remember how she used to correct me when I called her Margie. She was such a hoot!) The years we spent with her and Johnny were some of the funnest years we had. You are understandable sad, but you have to remember she and Johnny and Daniel are rejoined and they are happy. Our prayers go out to you both. We know you will miss her dearly. We love you.
Love, Aunt Pat and the Hollywood Ave Franz Clan.

My childhood is woven with memories with your family. I remember Marj (bravely) volunteering to be the Girl Scout Cookie Mom one year (probably vowing to never do that again) or her calling out to "Shanny", your dad taking us to Lagoon (which I think he really truly enjoyed) and even riding in the car with your grandma and mom. I loved how Shane would go all out decorating the front porch and spooking all of the kids with his creative electronic gadgets! I could go on and on, but please know I'm thinking of you all during this time and may you find peace and comfort in the coming days.

Marj was a wonderful friend and neighbor! She was kind and concerned for our well being.

Marj taught me how to stew the plums I shared with her from our tree. "Just add a little bit of sugar and cinnamon with water in a pan," she'd say.

I will stew and enjoy plums this summer and remember my friend Marj.

My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time of loss.
