MARJORIE MORGAN Obituary

Marjorie Baird Morgan 1928 ~ 2010 Marjorie Baird Morgan, wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother quietly passed from this life into her Heavenly Father's care on October 15, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Salt Lake City on March 16, 1928 to Clarence and Afton Free Baird. She leaves a legacy of independence, hard work, tenacity, caring for the emotional well being of others and love of the beauty of Nature. Mom met Dad, Stanley Roy Morgan, while both were pursuing higher education at the University of Utah and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept 9, 1948. She supported Stan in his educational and career pursuits while raising a family of four children. Mom continued her education while raising her young family, earning a B.S. in 1956 and finally earning her M.S. in social work in 1965 from the U of U. She subsequently pursued her own successful career as a mental health professional, helping hundreds of patients improve their lives. She worked as a psychiatric social worker for University of Utah Med Center, Primary Childrens' Hospital and South Valley Mental Health Center. Mom continued her lifelong education by earning a Master Gardener's certification which eventually led to her serving an LDS mission in the gardens at Temple Square from Sept 1994 to March 1997, working with handicapped young adults who desired to serve. Marjorie will always be remembered for her lovely garden where she often was found bent over weeding or tending to a sick plant. Mom is survived by her four children, Maridyth (Guy) Hatch, Logan, UT; S. Baird (Karen) Morgan, Salt Lake; Reed Morgan, St. George; Gayle (Randy) James, Salt Lake; sister Dorothy Bradley, Salt Lake; 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Stan, brothers Bruce and Robert Baird, sister Eleanor Baird and grandson Matthew Morgan. Funeral services will be held at East Millcreek 9th Ward Chapel, 3760 South, Hillside Lane (2500 East), on Saturday, October 23rd, 11:00 a.m. There will be a viewing prior to funeral 9:30 a.m. at the church. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. In lieu of flowers, donations to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI, Utah) in Marjorie's name and in her honor would be greatly appreciated. Our family extends our deepest appreciation to the caregivers at Sunrise Assisted Living for the skillful, tender care and unconditional love. Online condolences may be made to www.wasatchlawn.com

I don't know if I'm too late with this message for Marj's family to receive it. I hope not. I worked with Marj at Valley Mental Health for several years, I suppose about 20 or so years ago.
Since she and I were on different teams we rarely worked together but maybe attended some meetings together and certainly chatted now and then. I enjoyed the friendship we had and have good feelings for her. I know she was an excellent therapist and social worker and was a very nice and personable woman. I moved on to another job and lost track of many of the people I had worked with at Valley Mental Health, including Marj. I was sorry to see in the paper that she had passed away. I hope all of her family are doing okay adjusting to her being gone.

Gayle, my prayers are with you and your family. Your mother provided a wonderful service to many lives in her role as a social worker. Eleanor

To the Family of Marjorie, Some months ago I went to the Sunrise Assisted Living to visit a friend. I was directed to the dining room. As I scanned my eyes over the patrons I was standing near a table when one of the sweet ladies said, "Aren't you Alvin Anderson?" To my surprise it was Marjorie! We had attended William Penn Grade School decades before!
We were both happy to see each other and she invited me back for a visit. We had a good time reminiscing those olden days at school and at their home on Highland Drive. She is a great lady and had a wonderful life. God Bless her Family! Sincerely, Al Anderson

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Marjorie Morgan !! In 1985, while I was living in Salt Lake City , she helped me through an EXTREMELY rough time. I was so grateful for her wisdom . But , also , the first time I walked into her office, I could tell she was L.D.S. because the Spirit was so strong with her. She helped me immensely. May the Lord shower her family with a peace beyond our understanding.
Thank you for the 'touch' that Marjorie Morgan had in my life ! Through her help , spiritual gifts, wisdom , and insights.......I was eventually able to marry and have children.
God bless Marjorie Morgan !!
