Max Shumway Obituary

Max B. Shumway  Max B. Shumway passed away Oct. 26th, 2002 on Highway 6 due to an auto accident.  He was born July 18th, 1969 in Bountiful, Utah to Merrill D. and W. Kay Black Shumway. He married Pamela Sorensen on June 6, 1993 in Reno, Nevada. Max was a very caring and loving person. He lived to be with his wife and children. He loved them more than anything on earth. Max was a gifted and talented artisan. His creations were an inspiration to all that saw them. Max loved the outdoors and God's creations. He loved hunting and fishing while out among God's environment. Given a choice Max would have preferred to have been born at an earlier day, a day where our society lived a simpler slower pace life style. Max had a gift of forgiving those whom he thought had offended him. He could always move on and forget the past. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Sorensen Shumway; sons - Taylor Lee and Triston Dee; daughter - Taryn Kay. Parents - Merrill and Kay Shumway; grandmother - Hilma B. Black; Brothers - Steven Merrill and Clinton (Tammy) Dee; Sisters - Mendy (Brent) Maxwell, Marie (Phil) Beauchesne, Michelle (Jacob) Nuttall.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 31, 2002, 11:00 a.m. at Crescent 22nd Ward Chapel, 106 E. 11400 So. Family and friends may call Wednesday 6 - 8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10550 So.) and Thursday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment Lake Hills Memorial Park. In Max's memory and in lieu of flowers, family and friends may make a donation at any Zion Bank branch in the name of Pamela Sorensen Shumway Family Fund.

Dear President Shumway and Family,

I knew Max in high school back when he had braces and played saxaphone in the high school band. My twin brother Kirk and I played trombone and we had some great times with Max. He and Jeff Jarrard were inseparable. I lost track of Max after high school but it is great to know that Max continued to be a wonderful person, husband, and father, as I have read in his obituary and the comments in the guest book. I am married and have two little ones of my own and know how hard it would be to leave them in this mortal life. May the Lord's richest blessings and an understanding of this tragedy be yours at this difficult time. Our prayers and support are with you President Shumway as you prepare for the upcoming stake conference.

Max was my big brother and I loved him very much. He had such a tender and loving heart. He was never afraid to say "I love you". I love him so much and will miss him greatly. He always made me feel like what happened in my life was important to him. I am expecting my first child in December, and Max was so excited for me. Every time I saw him he would put his hands on my belly and talk to my baby, saying "Hi Lucy, It's Uncle Max. I can't wait to meet you" It was so sweet. I regret that my children will never get to meet their Uncle Max, but they will know him through my memories of him.

I love you Max!

I knew Max and Pam together as young people with only each other to care for and love. Then as they built their family nurtured and cared for each other’s dreams, hopes, and wishes. Nothing could have come between them and nothing ever did.

Max was everything that I want to be, he was always trying to get me to better myself in relationships with people around me. Max was someone that I looked up to more than anyone ever knew, and I love him dearly. Whenever I had a problem, Max was the one that I would call, he may not have been able to fix it but he always had a suggestion that would help. Max was the one that I could talk to when I had no one to talk to he would listen and never judge me for my actions.

Max was probably the one person I know that would always tell me that he loved me, anytime that we parted he would say it, and I regret that I never once said it back, I wish that I had. But he knew that I love him.

I love Max and will miss him for the rest of my life. I'm greatful that I got to spend his last day with him, talking and laughing and being brothers.

I will miss Max very much! He touched my heart and could always make me laugh and smile. Max was so filled with joy and that is what made it so wonderful to have him around. Max was an inspiration and everything he did and said was kind... I would also like to add that he was a great handyman and would help with anything you asked of him and didn't asked him to do, you'd look out the window and he'd just be there doing yard work, or taking the trash out, making it safe by removing the snow. Max is going to be GREATLY MISSED!!! God Bless:)
