Michael Zervos Obituary

Michael Zervos, Jr.

February 26, 1963 - November 24, 2021

Salt Lake City, UT—The world lost an incredible father, brother, cousin, friend, entertainer, wine maker, cook and educator as Michael Zervos Jr. fell asleep in the Lord on November 24, 2021, to Covid related illnesses.

Mike was born on February 26, 1963, to Michael Zervos Sr. and Stephania Adondakis Zervos. Growing up in West Jordan, Utah, Mike had many interests including football and baseball. He graduated from Bingham High School in 1981 and then attended the University of Utah, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science in 1986. Recruited by Equifax, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and worked as a system analyst. Mike completed his MBA from Kennesaw State University in Georgia and joined Choicepoint in 1997.

Mike met the love of his life Demetra Paraschos and they were married in 1999. They had 2 sons, Nektarios and George. Tragically and unexpectantly, in 2009 Demetra fell asleep in the Lord.

Mike and his sons (the ZBoys) moved to Salt Lake. In 2011, he began teaching high school at the Granite Technical Institute. Mike's students were the first from Utah to qualify for the National Programmer's Championship. Mike's students loved him and he loved teaching them about computers and life.

Mike's boys were the shining lights in his life of which he was endlessly proud. He was extremely devoted to his Orthodox Faith. Mike will be remembered as one of the great spices in life. He had a larger-than-life personality, helped anyone who entered his universe, and had a heart of gold. Mike will be sorely missed by anyone who had the pleasure of crossing his path. Eternal be your memory Mike.

Mike is survived by his: sons Nektarios and George Zervos; sisters Chryssi (Jim) Kocolas, Georgia (Steve) Katsanevas, Stella (George) Brokalakis, Presvytera Ranae (Fr. Joseph) Strzelecki, and Mary (Peter) Yannias; brother Stelio Zervos; brothers-in-law Harry (Xanthoula) and Theofilos Paraschos; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by: his wife Demetra Zervos, his parents Michael and Stephania Zervos, and his wife's parents George and Paraskevi Paraschos.

The funeral took place at Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, Salt Lake City, Utah on November 30 followed immediately with interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Salt Lake City.

Mr Zervos, as a proud student of yours. Always will be in debt to you for paying for my trips and giving me allowances secretly so I wouldn't be embarrassed. I'll always miss you and will have you side of my heart as a one of the greatest memory. Thank you so much for being my teacher and a friend.

Dear Zervos Family:

I was saddened to hear of Mike's passing. My heart goes out to his boys and the family. I didn't know Mike very well, but I do remember his "larger than life" personality and his warmth and kindness towards others. And I was never able to thank him for the kindness he showed my parents. I appreciated that so much. Eternal be his memory.

Nektarious, George, and family, I am so sorry. Mike was an amazing person that lit up a room with his presence, and such a wonderful father. ZBoys, sending you both love and praying you will be comforted. If I can ever do anything for you, please reach out.

I worked with Mike at the GTI for a few years. I will always remember how welcoming he was when I started teaching. He always had a HUGE smile on his face and had the greatest laugh. He would talk about his boys and how proud he was to be their dad.
