Mildred Van Dorn Obituary
Mildred "Mickie" Bate VanDorn My Beloved Wife Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Mickie Bate Van Dorn, age 79, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center of a sudden illness. Mickie was born June 6, 1923, in American Fork, UT to Elmer Peter and Jeannette Thorton Bate. She was very optimistic and always served others. Her family and friends will always remember her sweet spirit and her love for others. She attended American Fork High School and went on to graduate as a Registered Nurse from LDS Hospital in 1944. She was a nurse for 58 years working at many different places. A few of her favorites were American Fork and Utah Valley Hospitals, and working for Dr. Charles Pledger and Dr. Charles Stewart. After retiring she volunteered at Timpanogos Hospital, which she thoroughly enjoyed until the time of her death. She was the happiest when she was serving others. Mickie married the love of her life, John "Jack" Milo Van Dorn II, Aug 25, 1944. They were later sealed for time and all eternity July 8, 2000 in the Mount Timpanogos LDS Temple. She enjoyed traveling with Jack and her family. Whether it was flying overseas, going on cruises, or just camping in the mountains, she loved to travel. She also enjoyed playing cards (club) with her friends, going out to eat, attending BYU games, or watching them on TV. Whatever she was doing she wanted family and friends around. Mickie is survived by her husband of 58 years; three children, Mike (Swen-dy) Van Dorn, Salt Lake, Jolene (Boyd) LeeMaster, Orem, John (Con-nie) Van Dorn, Orem; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
