NATHAN FLINT Obituary

Nathan William Flint 1995 ~ 2010 Nathan William Flint, 14, beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend tragically departed from this life on February 13, 2010.Nathan was born in Murray, Utah, on July 14, 1995, as the third child and only son to Vrena Brog Flint and the late Craig William Flint. He immediately became the brightest light in our lives. Nate had a zest for life and loved to be around his family and friends. He was full of enthusiasm and completely fearless. He loved to laugh and saw humor in everyday things. Being around friends and playing his guitar were the highlights of his days. He touched many lives with his easygoing, good-natured character. Nathan was always willing to help friends or to give them a boost when they were low. His kindness will be missed by all who knew him. At an early age, he loved riding with his father on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Full of energy and exuberance, he excelled in skateboarding and Taekwondo, earning his Black Belt. Nathan also excelled academically and was an Honor Roll student at Riverview Jr. High. Nate was devastated when his father died of cancer in September of 2006 and never stopped missing him. Introduced to the guitar by his father, Nate discovered his natural talent and immediate love for music. He enrolled in the School of Rock and quickly earned a position as a valued All-Star member. Through playing the guitar, he discovered a new kind of freedom, and he became an inspiration to many. Nathan is survived by his mother Vrena Flint, and sisters Tasa and Angela. He also leaves behind his Grandpa Flint, Grandma and Grandpa Brog, many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. Nathan was preceded in death by his father Craig William Flint and Grandma Betty Bradshaw Flint. A viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. followed by funeral services from 7:45 to 9 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2010, at the Gathering Place in Gardner Village (1100 West 7800 South, West Jordan). Interment will be held with immediate family at the Hyde Park Cemetery. We know Nathan would want to recognize all those who loved and mentored him throughout his life. The Flint family would like to thank everyone who has helped with their hands, their hearts, and their prayers. Our hearts are overflowing with appreciation. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the School of Rock Foundation in memory of Nathan Flint (9083 South 255 West Sandy, UT 84070.

Daer Vrena, Tasa and Angie.... we can not even begin to imagine the pain in your hearts. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We have not seen Nathan for several years but we have a very clear memory of the huge smile on Nathan's face as he rode behind his Dad on that beautiful white Harley. Find comfort in knowing that he is catching the wind on his face rideing behind his Dad on the winding roads of heaven.

REMEMBER NATHAN

February 22, 2010

I only met Nate once or twice and never knew him that well, but i saw him play quite a few times at the school(RJH),he had fun - that was what we (everyone there) saw. My son is torn up about this, as well as all of Nathan friends are, and that hurts all of us. No matter the pain that we all feel, i am sure that it doesnt compare to what you are going through. I cry for your loss, and for all of our loss. I am so sorry. From what i have learned over the last week about your son, and brother, the world lost someone great. Once again, i am sorry for your loss.

Vrena, Angie & Tasa,

If it weren't for Sheri, we would have never have known & we can only imagine your disbelief of Nathan's passing at such an early age. Please know how deeply sorry we are. We did not get to know Nathan as he grew from a baby to a young man, but know how proud his Dad was of him. May his guitar strings now be accompanied by those of a harp welcoming him home to be with Craig. Can you imagine what a reunion that will be.

I am very sad about the passing of Nate. He was truly one of my best friends. He has always just lived next door my whole childhood, and my whole life. My mom always would say, "Nate is so cute!". And I totally agree with that. I will miss jumping on the tramp, the skateboarding (all the times i tried and Nate kept encouraging me not to stop and keep trying even after i had fallen 10 times or more), his long beautiful curly blond hair and the jam sessions in the "tower". Nate, I love you. You are a great inspiration to everyone and to me in my everyday life. You will never be forgotten, you are locked in my heart and mind. Your fearless and easy-going way of life has stuck with me through the years, but also your determination has made me not to go the easy way out, or to give up, also to prove people wrong when they doubt me. You have always been a great loving friend and I will miss you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Love ya.

Nathan was such a talented and wonderful boy. I know the staff and students at Riverview Jr. High are grieving for the loss of friend and fellow student. I remember him as always smiling and always being excited about playing his guitar.
I am thinking of Nathan's family and offering a silent prayer that they may be comforted.

Vrena, Tasa, and Angie...I can't find words to express my deep sympathy for your loss. Nate was truly one in a million. He was part young Greek God and part teletubby. I remember laughing hard one day watching this big gorgeous, talented kid jumping all over the stage with his big yellow curls bouncing, and you, Vrena, looked up and said, "The girls say that he dances like ME.." He was such a delight to be around and to watch perform. He had a certain magic quality about him that made everyone laugh and feel happy. I hope that all these letters and pictures will help you to always feel his magic that he put out there for others. He was the biggest and brightest star and I'm so sorry that you didn't get to have him with you longer, but he was so lucky to be loved and adored by all three of you. He couldn't have been more loved. My thoughts are with you, and of course, you know that Emma was one of his biggest fans and will always remember him as the most incredible person to walk the earth.

Dear Flint Family,I could write a million pages about Nate, but I want to thank-you guys for how much you have accepted me as part of your family.Nathan was always so nice to me, even when we had disagrements.I want you to know that I am just a phone call away when you need help.Nathan inspired me to ski better and to keep trying because he always said there was never a reason to quit.A few weeks ago we were talking about how we were going to buy new Unicycles and ride them around Murray,he was always alot of fun and uplifting!Nate was my best friend and he will always be in my heart.Love, Wyatt

February 19, 2010

Dear Vrena,Tasa and Angie, I have been thinking about Nate all week and so many memories come to mind. He was such a sweet and happy kid.He always made me laugh, could hold his own in a discussion about rock music, and was happy to eat my lousy cooking ! He was good at everything he tried, I will miss hearing him out "grinding the curb" on his skateboard on early summer mornings. He was really amazing on the guitar, and loved to have me try to guess the song he was playing.Nate was never content to just ride a bike, he wanted to learn to ride a Unicycle, and the next thing I knew, he was doing it! I remember all the fun he and Wyatt had in the summers, jumping on the Trampoline, sleep overs and water fights. He was just a fun kid! It was refresing to see a kid that loved his mother so much and he was so proud of his sisters.I already miss seeing he and Wyatt together,in many ways he became part of our family. He was greatly loved and will be missed. Please know that our prayers are with you, we want to help you with whatever you need . Love you, Muriel Brinkerhoff

Saying goodbye to you Nathan is heart rending. We love you honey. You mean so much to us and we will never forget you. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us, nothing will ever be the same without you. You have always been in our thoughts and prayers and will forever stay. You were a one of a kind. Free from selfishness, greed – free from self-promotion and ego. You had a drive for perfection in your endeavors and a love to protect and help those close to you that was beyond your years. We will always remember your energy, drive, many many talents and most of all the day-to-day living, conversing and those tight big bear hugs. As we carry on with life it will be less bright and more daunting without you. We love you more than any words could ever convey. When we lost our son Garrett we never dreamed we would have to lose another one in this lifetime. Until we meet again Nathan remember we hold you in our heart just like our own son.

I was a long term sub at Riverview Jr. High and had Nathan for 6 weeks in class. The class was Foundations of Technology. I found him to come to each class with a smile on his face. He was always happy and very polite. One day he had come to class with his assignment already done. So I let him play computer games. With his easy going smile he said "cool"! I often wondered if he realilzed that his hair was gorgeous. Any girl would love those curls.

My grandson, Chad, and Nathan were friends in school. They were both born in the same month and year. Chad will miss him very much. I remember watching Nathan ride his big wheel through the neighborhood. So much energy. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. God bless you.

Nathan - I know I always looked forward to the Jazz Band concerts at Riverview, always asking Colby if you were going to have yet another awesome solo performance. Would have really enjoyed seeing you and Colby play together more often.

You've made a lasting impression on Colby, as well as me. I'll miss your blonde head bobbing as you played. Your friends, and fans, will miss you. Infinitely.

Rock the heavens.

Nathan, you certainly made an inspiring impression on my son Jaysen. He loved your light heartedness and enjoyed your laughter and thought you were an awesome guitar player.
My thoughts and prayers are with your mom and sisters at this very sad time. You will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to not only Nathans family, but his School of Rock family and friends as well. Within such a short period of time, Nathan touched so many. Myself and son included. I hope many will take Nathans love of music and use it to help them heal there broken hearts. Take comfort in knowing he's "flying high to the Angels."
