Orson Gygi Obituary

Orson Paul Gygi
1930 ~ 2012
Orson Paul Gygi was born September 15, 1930 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Orson Henry Gygi and Zina Vance Gygi. He passed away March 21, 2012 at home. Paul served four years in the US Navy during the Korean War. He married Ilene Dial November 10, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Paul was an active lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions, especially with the youth and Ward and Stake activities.
Paul worked as a salesman with his father and three brothers in the Orson H. Gygi Co for 30 years. Then he opened GSI Restaurant Supply in Orem which he owned and operated for 12 years before retiring in 1998. He was a very successful salesman and became friends with all of his customers. He had a hobby of buying wrecked automobiles and worked with his son to restore them to sell. He was a very ambitious man and worked hard all his life until health problems restricted his activities.
He is survived by his wife, Ilene, daughter Korene Bird and son Gary (Sue), eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two sisters, Marjeanne (Ross) McDonald, Lola Timmins and one brother, Perry (Ann). He was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Paul, daughter, Cheryl Winters and two brothers, Wayne and Wally. The family would like to thank all those who helped Mom so she could care for him at home these last 12 years.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 26, 11:00 a.m. at the Holladay 4th Ward, 4917 Viewmont St. (2085 East). Friends may call, Sunday evening at the Holladay-Cottonwood Memorial Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive from 6-8 p.m. and again at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment immediately following at Holladay Memorial Park. Online condolences can be submitted at www.memorialutah.com

Ilene and family,
You have been good friends and neighbors for a very long time. The Vern and Marian Taylor family sends their love and support. I'm sorry we couldn't be there.

My condolences to the family. I remember Paul and his siblings and parents quite well. I know they were good friends with my older brother Gary Backer, and my parents, Reiny and Ruby. Reiny and Orson H. (Paul's dad) had a business relationship (West High Bakery and Orson H. Gygi Company) and were great friends as well. There were many deer hunting escapades over the years, and myself, my younger brother (Richard) and sister (Pat) loved visiting with Paul's parents, anxiously awaiting the OK to go down and use the pool table in the rec room. And a special hello to Lola; so sorry to hear that Wally and Wayne also have passed.

Aunt Ilene, Korene and Gary, my prayers are with you at this difficult time. I have many fond memories of the times that we gathered at Grandma's home for Thanksgiving when we were all younger. We have a great family and Uncle Paul will be missed. I'm grateful that dad, and Wally were there to greet him on the other side of the veil. I pray that you will find comfort and peace.

I wish you hope and blessings as you remember the good things and look forward to a reunion. He will be greatly missed. I remember his teasing of us as we played hide and seek around Grandma's gardens. May you feel at peace. Jana Gygi Sides (Perry and Ann's daughter)
