Paul Engh Obituary

1935 ~ 2015
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle Paul Henry Engh, 80, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2015. He was a wonderful man and caring father, close to the many people who surrounded him throughout his life and during his final days. He is now reunited with many friends and family including his parents, cousins and brother who will greet him with open arms.
Paul was born January 17, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the oldest of six children who he often led into mischief and pranks. He graduated from Granite High School and served a three year mission for the LDS Church in Norway, a country that was always very near to his heart and fondly referred to by Paul and his family as, "The Mother Land." Paul grew up working in the well known Engh Floral Family with his brothers and sisters.
He married Patricia A. Olson in 1957 and they enjoyed many years together raising their eight children. They started Paul Engh Landscaping and Alpine Nursery on 45th South and 7th East. Over the years Paul and his children landscaped numerous commercial projects including buildings on the University of Utah campus, the Salt Palace, Symphony Hall and the Provo Temple among others. Alpine Nursery flourished and grew, and all of his children learned a great deal about the garden business which led many to follow in his footsteps starting their own garden centers.
Paul and two of his sons Eric and Scott raised a special breed of cattle called Peidmontese, showing their champion cattle together in five western states. He raised appaloosa race horses and show horses with his children for many years. In 1991 Paul married Connie R. Richins and enjoyed many years together both in the garden business and raising horses. They shared a passion for animals and showing miniature horses.
The highlight of each year for Paul was his favorite family vacation, traveling to Metropolis, Nevada to the Engh Family Homestead where his Grandfather Arnt Engh settled a homestead in 1915. Each year the extended family of Arnt Engh gathers to celebrate the Engh family heritage with camping, cooking, games and stories.
He was preceded in death by his father Henry Carl Engh, mother Dorcas Ardella Hokanson Engh and brother Henry Carl Jr. Paul is survived by his wife Connie Engh, two sisters Jeanette Nelson (Robert) and Judy Peterson (William) and three brothers David Engh (Joan), Dennis Engh (Judith), and Daniel Engh (Connie), eight children Eileen Engh, Karen Engh, Cheryl Engh, Eric Engh, Christine Fornelius (Brett), Linda Engh-Grady (Dave), Scott Engh (Tanya) and John Engh (Kellie), and 20 grandchildren.
The family would like to offer their gratitude to the Huntsman Cancer Institute nurses, doctors, clinical and palliative care team for their outstanding care and compassion in his final days.
The funeral for Paul Engh will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at the LDS Cameo Park Ward chapel at 8909 South 1700 East, Sandy, Utah 84093. There will be a viewing at 10:30 a.m. followed by a service at Noon. The graveside service will start at 1:30 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Lawn cemetery 1950 East, 10600 South, Sandy, Utah. An evening viewing will also be held on Thursday, March 12 will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. for friends and family at the Cameo Park Ward chapel.
Memorial gifts may be made to Red Butte Gardens Arboretum where the family is establishing a memorial in his name.

Elder Engh, Elder Bateman, and I (Elder Anderson) traveled to our missions together on the ship Stavangerford in 1955. Elder Engh got off in Norway, Elder Bateman went to Finland, and I went down to Denmark. I remember Paul as a good man. I have not seen or heard from the other two since that day we parted. My wife and I send condolences to you and the family.
