RHONDA LEIGH Obituary

Rhonda Leigh 1931 ~ 2009 Our wonderful Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma GG and friend to all, lost her battle to lung cancer. She loved gardening and was considered a "Master Gardner" by her son who was her understudy. She cut a record with Conway Twitty, but she chose family over a singing career. She was a talk show host at KZZI, KMGR, and KTKK, did the Tradio and Potpourri shows and produced overnight national satellite shows. Thanks to all her friends and fans. She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings SN, Bobby, Retna, Buelah, Verna Opal and her son Stephen Eldon. She is survived by her son Edward Campbell (Debbie), Granddaughters Ashlee´ (Matt) Crook, Tiffany Campbell, GG Jocelyn Crook and her adopted son, Tom Phillips. She is also survived by her siblings Ethel Mae and Marle. Services will be held Saturday August 22nd, 2009. A viewing will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with services from 2:00 pm to 3:00 p.m. at Mountain View Memorial, 3115 E. 7800 S. Cottonwood Heights, UT.

Some are known primarily by their first name. From the time I met her at KTKK, her name became forever hyphenated and known to me only as RHONDA-LEIGH. In those early days I wondered if she had a last name. She was a powerhouse friend who will never be forgotten. For years she was a stalwart on local talk radio as host and caller. When she came on air, we listened. She will be missed.

Dear Ed, Debbie, Ashlee' and Tiffany:

We were truly saddened at the passing of your Mom and Grandmother. She was a very special lady to many people. We loved Rhonda. She would always make me feel so happy and special as I called her for our NAMI get-togethers. She was also one of the first ones there and we would have a little time to visit. We were honored to know and love Rhonda. We wish we had known of all her special talents before she died. We could have had much more entertaining dinners and meetings. Ed and Ashlee' -- you both did such a marvelous job at her funeral. I'm sure she was even prouder of you then than she ever was and she was darn proud of all of you. We know you will see her again and I think she will greet you with open arms and a delicious basket of fresh vegetables. We will miss sharing in her bounteous harvest at our fall picnic. Thanks for sharing her with us.

My Dearest Rhonda,
You were such a big part of my life for the last 14 years. I love you as a Sister and my children love you as an Aunt. Logan references many things in my yard to Aunt Rhonda. I'm happy to've had the opportunity to accompany you to Alabama and meet all your Family. I will miss our monthly gathering with Barbara and Maggie. I will miss your prescriptions for good health and ailments "Dr. Leigh". I've learned so much from you about cooking and gardening. You will be dearly loved and missed and will always have a very Special place in my heart. Love, Rita

Rhonda, although we never got to know you quite as well as I wish we would have, you have made a great impression on myself and my girls. I know that you will be dearly missed. Having been there myself my love and deepest sympathy to your family for it is they who now have the hard time to get through while you have moved on to a much better place. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Rhonda,
You will be forever missed. I remember when I first met you at brunch with my grandma (Ruth Russell). I never forgot your name or "which one of the ladies" you were. You were a great friend to my grandma. Your friendly personality is one more people should have. Your "Hi Honey" is one that will be missed as well. Sincerely, Amanda Ferguson

Goodbye Honey. Doesn't seem possible that you won't be with me on our gardening adventures but I know you're already finding a plot of ground over there to plant some terrific okrie. Thank you for sharing your straight forward loving life with so many of us. Saturday mornings will always carry an echo of you my dear friend - even if no one else can hear it, HELLO, HONEY! will always lift my spirits. To Ed and all of her much loved family, thank you for sharing this amazing lady with the rest of us.

Grandma, you were the heart and soul of our family. Thank you for taking an entire month to come out to CA & help me with Jocelyn, your first and only great grandbabie. I cried as we dropped you off at the airport because I was scared to be alone with my brand new baby. You held my hand & told me "you can do it baby, I believe you're a great mother and I'm only a phone call away". I wish I could call you now Grandma. You have forever touched my life & I try to live like you every day. Goodbye Grandma GG.
~All my love, Ashlee', Matt, Jocelyn, buster & Peanut Crook
