Richard Romano Obituary

Richard Romano

1945 ~ 2022

Richard C Romano (Dick) passed away on June 9, 2022. He was born March 11, 1945 in Holy Cross Hospital, Salt Lake City to Mary and Bruno Romano. He loved growing up in Rose Park and Bountiful, Utah with his brothers and sisters, JoAnn (Frank Knell); Mike (Carrie) and Corby (Kenna) and Carol (deceased). Dick's Uncle Ted taught him to play baseball, and they forever shared a special bond.

Dick graduated from Judge Memorial Catholic High School in 1963, where he made many lifelong friends. He attended the University of Utah while he worked at Sears selling paint. He then stepped in to take over his father's company as a private investigator and remained there throughout his life, until 2015 when he was diagnosed with a degenerative neurological condition related to an injury and moved into a care center.

He married Janet Childers in 1965 and they had two beautiful children; Rich (Bridget Hintze) and Carrie (Anthony Cordova). His children and three grandchildren were the light and pride of his life; Isabel and Simon Romano and Ellie Cordova. He often referred to them as his greatest accomplishment. He loved hosting parties and Sunday dinners for family and friends. He loved Christmas and showering presents on his loved ones. Every holiday was reason for a party but it didn't take a holiday – anytime worked for a backyard Sport Court party. Although he was the life of the party, he would start washing dishes before everyone was finished eating. He liked cleaning and at one point owned twelve vacuums. He found peace and joy at Lake Powell and headed out most Fridays in the summer. He wasn't the best boat driver, but somehow, we survived and many years of happy memories were made fishing, skiing and boating with friends and family. He was proud of his Italian heritage and a highlight of his life was visiting his ancestral home in Italy where he met his great Aunt and Uncle deleRosa.

My Sympathy to you all about the passing of Dick. Sorry I could not attend the services due to a medical appointment. The picture was exactly how I remembered Dick. He was such a passionate person and you knew how much he cared for you. He was so wonderful to mom and Janet and Dick would always come over to visit with her. Bless you all

To the Romano family;
Dick and I became friends when my family and I moved to Salt Lake City from Chicago, Illinois. We played baseball together (Joe Caputo was also on the team.)
I have found memories of Dick and I cutting up and giving the Nun's a fit, at Judge Memorial.
We lost touch with one another until I hired Dick's company to do some work for me in the early 80's. He was a good friend, but we lost touch again when I moved to San Diego in 1983. I was however, able to speak to Dick on the phone last year and we enjoyed reminiscing about the past.

To the Romano family. I can´t think of a better friend to the Caputo family than the Romano's . That picture of Dick is exactly how I remember him as a child. What a handsome man !(THE ORIGINAL ITALIAN STALLION) The memories that are etched in my mind forever. What a Hall of Fame baseball team that is being assembled in heaven. You and my father (Joe Caputo) keep the pitchers mound open for me !!!!
