He was an inspiring teacher and the kindest of men. My trip to Galapagos was life changing and I´m forever grateful I was in the presence of such a great human. During finals, I tried to sneak in late. The chair broke and I fell to the floor. Dr Vickery made a comment about me making a statement. It was subtle, inoffensive and hilarious, even I laughed on the floor. My condolences to the family and all who knew him.

I am so saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Vickery. My heartfelt condolences to Marcia and the family. For many years my advising office was right around the corner from his in the South Biology Bldg. We visited often and I was fortunate to accompany his student group to the Galapagos Islands when he was awarded the Distinguished Professor honor and created his special evolutionary biology course with a field trip to the Islands. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had. He was such a kind, warm person and dedicated scholar and teacher. I think of him as the "Gentleman Professor" and remember him fondly.

I took a black and white photo of him on the boat in the Galapagos with his hair blowing in the wind and a smile on his face. Will cherish it forever.

He was my friend. My wife Nancy and I had such a good time with him in the Galapagos. He made the world a better place.

I was honored and privileged to have known Dr. Vickery and worked with him over the years. He was intelligent, kind, generous and strong. He was a joy and shared that joy with all who knew him. He was truly remarkable.
