Roger Honri Bullock
1947-2025
Salt Lake City, Utah Roger Honri Bullock, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born in Merced, California, March 30, 1947 to Jesse Honri and Alta Alline Bullock, Roger married Catherine Elaine Cooley in 1984 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He often shared that marrying Cathy was the smartest thing he'd ever done.
Roger is survived by his wife Catherine Bullock, two children: Thomas (Janis) Bullock of Seattle, WA, and Amy (Colin) Clancy of Salt Lake City, and 5 grandchildren: Jesse Bullock (8), Rocky Bullock (5), Henry Bullock (4), Jackson Clancy (5), and Max Clancy (2). He is also survived by his sister Martha (Crea) McMullin, many beloved siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and treasured lifelong friends.
Roger maintained endless intellectual curiosity from childhood until his passing. As a youth, he passionately pursued his interests in Latin, scripture, basketball and music. He praised his parents for their stewardship of his education. Roger was always a high-achieving student with an earnest love of learning. His degrees included: B.A. History, High Honors and M.S. Sociology from Brigham Young University; Institut Catholique de Paris, France, Certificate; University of Utah, Juris Doctorate.
Roger was raised LDS, attended BYU, and served his mission in Brazil. Upon returning, he determined that this was incompatible with his beliefs and left the LDS church. He found new faith and spiritual footing in Wasatch Presbyterian Church – a community rooted in inclusion. Roger continued to express gratitude throughout his life that he discovered a spiritual home so focused on compassion, respect for individual differences and love for your neighbor. He supported the church and its community through service on committees, financial investment and acts of service to his community.
Roger practiced as an attorney at Strong & Hanni Law Firm for over 40 years where he was a full equity shareholder and practice group leader. He handled over 500 cases successfully resulting in settlement or summary judgment and was lead counsel in over 50 trials in federal and state courts. Roger took great care in mentoring younger attorneys and sharing his professional knowledge.
Roger sat on the American Board of Trial Advocates (rank of Advocate), the International Association of Defense Counsel, and the Aerospace Law Committee of the American Bar Association. He served as an Executive Committee Member on the Utah State Bar Litigation Section, a member of the Ethics and Discipline Committee for the Utah State Bar, and President of the Utah Chapter Defense Research Institute. Roger was proud to have earned the rating of "AV" with Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating awarded to attorneys for professional competence and ethics. He also received the 2011 Legacy Award for distinguished contribution to the legal community by the Utah Defense Lawyers Association. His private files overflow with the kind words of appreciation and admiration from his colleagues and clients over the years.
Roger's life centered around his greatest love – his sweetheart and wife Catherine. Together they modeled partnership, intentionality, and generosity. They loved traveling the world – from rafting the Grand Canyon to exploring the Galápagos Islands, taking walks together with their dog, and spending quiet time in one-another's presence with a book and a cup of coffee. Roger's greatest joy was his family. He coached his son's basketball teams year after year. He was his daughter's first debate opponent and loudest champion. He drove his children to school every morning instilling his music taste with zeal. Roger loved folk music and was an avid acoustic guitar player. His favorite audience was his five grandchildren. He presided over family dinner every evening, sharing lessons and aphorisms with his family and gleaning details from their day. He was a devoted father, with uncompromising standards for himself and limitless generosity to his children. He taught his children the value and pleasure derived from hard meaningful work.
