Salt Lake City, UT-It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Shepherd, who was affectionately known as "Papa" to his beloved grandchildren. He passed away peacefully on April 24, 2023, at the age of 83.

Roger was born on May 25, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Otis Terry Shepherd and Elizabeth Hanna Shepherd. He grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1959. He then attended Utah State University. In 1963 he was drafted into the Army as a map compiler at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After the Army he moved to Salt Lake City where he met and married Rebecca Crowley in 1966. Together they raised two children. As life changed, they eventually divorced. However, he found love again and had a devoted partner, his "sweetheart" Rozanne Broomhead. They were together for over 20 years, and he loved her dearly.

Roger remained a devoted and caring father and grandfather, always putting his family first. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and being a part of their lives. He never missed one of their ball games, gymnastics, cheer, or school programs.

Roger was a loving father and grandfather, but aside from his family, his greatest passions were golf and wood working. He was an avid golfer and spent countless hours on the course, honing his skills and enjoying the game he loved so much. He was also an accomplished wood worker, creating intricate and beautiful works of art that will be cherished by his family for generations to come.

In addition to his family, Roger had many friends who will remember him for his kindness, his sense of humor, and his unwavering loyalty. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his two children Sean Shepherd (Kathy) and Heidi Decker (Pete) and seven grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Terry Otis Shepherd and sister Suzanne Joy Jenkins.

A celebration of life will be held on May 25, 2023 from 6 to 8 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel, 4760 S. State St. Family and friends are welcome to attend and pay their respects.

Rest in peace, Papa. You will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved you.
