Sharon Muir Obituary

1950 ~ 2016
"Adieu! Adieu!
thy plaintive anthem fades
Past the near meadows,
over the still stream,
Up the hill-side;
and now 'tis buried deep
In the next valley-glades:
Was it a vision, or a waking dream?
Fled is that music: ---
Do I wake or sleep?"

For her former students, every time they open a book, Keats' Nightingale returns on the wings of Sharon's enduring gift.
After a long illness that she faced with great courage, Sharon passed peacefully with family by her side bidding her adieu. She was born to Dee and Dorothy Clegg, attended Skyline High School, and received degrees in education from the University of Utah and Utah State. At the two universities she met a cohort of colleagues who became fast and life long friends. For over twenty years she taught at Muir, Franklin, Mountain View and Rowland Hall Elementary Schools and tutored until she no longer had the strength. Helping children discover the magic of reading brought her joy beyond measure. She loved taking walks with dear friends, sharing a good book, and shopping for shoes and eyeglasses that complimented her natural beauty.
Sharon and Prescott shared a wonderful life of 44 years filled with memories to assuage the pain of her loss. She is preceded in death by her parents Dorothy and Dee Clegg, aunt Arlene (Warren) and is survived by her husband Prescott; brothers Darrell (Shauna) and Ralph (Kristin) Clegg; daughter Adria (Geoff) Swindle; son Luke (Meridith); and five precious grandchildren Ella, Lilly, Luke, Evan and Ryan. Nonna, you're "a flowery tale more sweetly than our rhyme".
A celebration of Sharon's life will be held at the Salt Lake Country Club on Tuesday, April 5th between 6 and 8:00 p.m. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 6th at 11:00 a.m. at Richard Upjohn's beautiful Cathedral of St. Marks, 231 East 100 South, followed by interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery,1342 East 5th South.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Dodson, Dr. Werner and the staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute, Silverado Hospice and Visiting Angel for their dedication and tender care for Sharon.

Such a beautiful person. My name is Shauna Jorgensen Hellstrom Archer. Sharon and I were born 1 month apart. We were the best of friends in our very young lives at school and just spending lots of time together as girl friends. We had many sleep overs at each others house. I don't know if her brothers remember me. I moved to California in 1972. My family still lives in Salt Lake City. My mom is now 91. She remembers Sharon like yesterday. A good friend saw Sharon's obituary and called me to tell me she had passed away. She was a very special person and we loved each other. My condolences to you all. May she rest in peace. Shauna

There are not enough words to tell her amazing family how much I love Sharon and how much we will all miss her. But I know my dad was there to be with her and that the two of them will be with us all especially with both of their beloved grandchildren! I'm here for anything you need, want or just someone to be there. Much love and light❤, Shon, Jen, Carlie and Micah Hiatt

I pray that God give your family peace and comfort through this extremely difficult time. Mrs. Muir was one of my favorite teachers from Franklin. She was dedicated to each student, extremely kind and had heart of gold. She will be dearly missed.

What a great couple. Lucky to have them as my friend

Aunt Sharon,
We will miss you! Your legacy will live on in the children and grandchildren that you loved so much. I have so many wonderful memories of you growing up. It takes a village to raise a child, and you certainly had a part in my growing up. I recall new years eve sleepovers with Luke & Adria, cheering Luke and I on in our Tennis endeavors. Many Holiday gatherings and Summer BBQs at Grandma's. Your passion for children and their education was unmatched. Rest in peace and we know that you will be smiling down upon those left behind. You buoyed a wonderful husband, raised 2 amazing children who married amazing people. We will see one another again! Until then, Adieu.

Your nephew,
Michael Muir

To my dearest Muir family: it's hard to believe my sweet aunt is truly gone. She had a wonderful influence on my life, growing up & as an adult. I loved to discuss books & education with her. Adria & I grew up together and we spent many nights watching movies as Sharon brought us popcorn & treats. I remember her taking us to the arts festival many times where we had our faces painted. She was so giving & thoughtful, always gifting my children and I glorious books that we can enjoy for the rest of our lives. I have always admired her so much and her dedication to teaching and her love of children. She was patient, quiet, kind. I believe the gates of heaven opened for her with gusto as many celebrated her life. She touched so many lives here on earth and will continue her journey, pain free. I love you dear aunt! May you rest in peace knowing you have loved, touched and shaped the lives of many. To my Uncle Scott, and cousins Adria & Luke , I love you dearly and its in moments like these when you realize that family & dear friends are everything. You are in my heart, thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. All my love to you! Love, Emily C. Muir Redd

To my sweet and loving friend. I will miss you terribly. I will always remember our great conversations while walking and over lunch. We always tried to solve the problems of the world and never did quite succeed. Thank you for showing me what style and grace looked like, what courage looked like, how to be a great Nana and Mom. You were my rock, my beautiful friend. Love you much.

To Scott, Adria, and Luke -- Sharon was one special lady. Her quiet, yet gentle persistence when teaching children in the classroom or tutoring was inspiring and masterful. Words to describe her friendship are not worthy enough (devoted, supportive, helpful, engaged, savvy advisor, enduring counselor). I have learned many lessons from her, including how to embrace courage and express joy in spite of impending death. Much love to you all.
