Thomas Coon Obituary

Thomas Craig Coon
1950 ~ 2014
Magna, UT-Tom Coon, 64, took his final ride early Saturday morning, October 25, 2014 ending his twenty-year battle with liver disease. Tom was born on March 9, 1950-the son of Ferris Breeze Coon and Eva Jean McAllister. In 1968, Tom married his Cyprus High School sweetheart, Karen Coffey, laying the foundation for a marriage that lasted 46 years. Tom was a cowboy. He loved rodeo, hunting, and riding in the mountains. More than that, he loved doing these things with family and friends. Tom's love for others made it easy for them to love him. Over the years, he took advantage of the opportunity to serve faithfully in a variety of callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He especially enjoyed working with the youth-they were drawn to his genuine kindness. In his professional life, he spent nearly 20 years working at Kennecott and an additional 20 years working at the LDS Church's Granite Mountain Records Vault. Tom is survived by his wife Karen; his sons Chad (Julie) and Cody (Melissa); his grandchildren: Makenzie, McKay, Alyse, Tanner, Grant, and Kierstyn; his father Ferris; brother Mike (Rita); and Sister Carolyn (Mike); as well as many other family members and lifelong friends. He is preceded in death by his mother Jean Coon.
Funeral services will be held 12 noon Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the LDS Chapel located on 7035 Lochness Ave. (3605 South) with a viewing prior to the service from 9:00 am-11:40 a.m. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park. Online condolences: www.peelfuneralhome.com

Tom was a great friend I will never forget the day we were practicing team roping and you said you were feeling kind of dizzy. That was the last time we ever roped together. The doctor said you had caught something from a cow. That started your long journey to today. Tom even though you couldn't rope or ride anymore you always had an encouraging word for me and every body else and I always knew how bad you missed it. Tom I just hope you and that old Sorrel horse will spin me a good one when I get to that arena in Heaven. I hope Karen and the Boys are all feeling Gods love and will let me know if I can help with anything at all. Love you all.

I have known Tom ever since he was called Tommy! In kindergarten he was all the girls heart throbs. We would all gather on the carpet on the floor waiting for the teacher to come and that was the time Tommy would tell us which girl friend he picked for the week. It took a while before he picked me but how happy we were to be picked.
We were good friends all through our lives. We went camping and High school rodeos together and had lots of fun. I will miss him.
I'm so sorry Karen for your loss. You and your boys and families will be in our prayers.

Love to you all,
Robbie and JoLynn Fackrell

The last time I saw Tom was at my brother's funeral. His smile lit up the room just as it had every single time I saw him over the years! He is one of those people that if you met him, you immediately felt his warmth and love. Anyone who had the pleasure to have met Tom was a better person because of it.

October 29, 2014

I will always remember Tom as my loving Young Men President when I was a priest. There was a period of time that I stopped attending church. Tom showed up on my doorstep one Sunday afternoon and let me know he missed me at church and invited me to come back. He even went to the effort of taking me out shooting clay pigeons so he could have some time with me to love and encourage me. I've often pondered where I would be today if he would not have left the ninety and nine and came after the one. I will forever be grateful for his love and example. Many the Lord bless your family with the "peace which surpasseth understanding" as you mourn the loss of such a wonderful man, father, husband and grandfather.
With all my love and condolences,

My Uncle Tom was really my 2nd cousin, but whenever I wanted to ride a horse as a young girl he would always saddle one up with out complaint. If I was too scared, he would lead me around the field and tell me the funniest stories about Uncle Fuzz. I will miss his hugs and smile. My prayers are with your family in this time of sadness.
