Thomas Macaluso Obituary

Thomas Macaluso
"Tom"
Thomas 'Tom" Macaluso, 82, died Saturday, November 21, 2015, after a long period of infirmity due to a massive stroke suffered in 1999. Born in Sopris, CO to Thomas Macaluso and Grace Darling Macaluso. Tom was a graduate of North High School.
Tom married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Droste Macaluso, in 1952 and was a resident of Denver and Westminister, CO until 1970 when he accepted a position with a national company, resulting in the family move to Salt Lake City. Tom was in the Naval Reserve in the early 1950's. He and Bonnie had three children, Terry Macaluso PhD, of Seattle, WA, Sandra Macaluso Hughes (Greg) of Salt Lake City, and Thomas Macaluso, Jr. also of Salt Lake City. Survived by his wife of 63 years. Tom is also survived by his children; grandchildren, Thomas Anthony Macauso (Kamie), Angelic (Macaluso) Pezely, (Tony) and Adam Gregory Hughes; 4 great grandchildren, Kaylie Macaluso, Nick Macaluso, Charlie Pezely and Olivia Pezely; and brother, Ronald of Connecticut.
Throughout his life, Tom was an avid collector of antique cars. Two prized cars were a 1916 Model T and a 1912 Cadillac which are now on display in the Hershey Antique Car Museum in Hershey, PA. From 1950 until 1970, Tom worked for his father at M&M Auto Electric, then located on Santa Fe St. in Denver. He opened a satellite store in Englewood that he operated until 1970, when he and the family relocated to Salt Lake City. Following his stroke in 1999, Tom spent his remaining years in a wheelchair, being cared for first by his wife, and then by medical professionals who provided care in his home. Throughout those last years, he was a very good friend to a great many people, supporting extended family members and being an excellent grandfather to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

I got acquainted with Tom thru shelving for businesses. I met him thru his son Tom jr and his ex wife whom I worked with at Alpha Beta. Very smart man and we had some very funny conversations about shelves, cars and kids. RIP ole friend. Sorry I didn't know of your passing until now.

To the Macaluso family,
I got to know Tom from working on his fireplace and grill. He was always very kind and polite, I enjoyed talking to Tom and his wife. He is another of "the good guys", that you hate to see go, yet I know he was ill. I know you will all be together again. May the peace of the Lord be with you.
