Thomas Trane Obituary

CLU, ChFC, LUTCF
6/10/1953 6/4/2012
Tom Trane was the life of the party. He was the one making sure your glass was full. He was a national guardsman, mechanical engineer, insurance man, family man, golfer, skier and the one still talking to you twenty minutes after he'd said goodbye. He loved wine, knowledge, travel and the art of the sale. His brilliant and inquisitive mind was always searching. He lived the life he wanted to live. His easy going nature and generosity will be missed most of all.
He is survived by his wife and soul mate of 31 years Shauna; two sons Chad and Colby; grandchildren Theo and Lyric; parents Ralph and Elda; siblings David, Becky, Rachel, Susan and Jon; devoted in-laws Bill, Shirley, Charlotte and Mary; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of people whose lives will be less bright without him.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 9th at 1:00 PM at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, Salt Lake City.
Arrangements entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.starksfuneral.com

I remember sitting across from Tom and working with his new recruits. He was always a positive force. He was a driving force. He would listen and was open to new ideas.

Shauna, Chad and Colby:
We will always remember Tom as the friendliest of neighbors, margaritas every Halloween, the fastest at putting up Christmas lights (and making me feel guilty mine were'nt up yet) and his corvette. Our deepest sympathy and love to all of you,

Shauna,
Of all the places I have lived with Farmers, Utah will always be my favorite. Not because of the recreation, but for the people, with Tom at the head of the line. He was a great friend, who I loved spending time with. We shared our love for our families, our frustrations at times, but I always felt good after meeting with Tom. Our prayers are with you and your family.

I was saddened to hear of Tom's passing. We grew up in the same neighborhood and attended church/school together. Our families often intertwined. We reconnected at Farmers Ins. and Tom was my early mentor for CLU. We crossed paths frequently since Farmers as members of NAIFA. He was always gracious and upbeat with a smile. Tom, you will be missed and my thoughts and prayers are with your family.

We bought Tom's old house 4 years ago. We are happy in the house as he told us his family was growing up in it. We light a candle in a house for his lively spirit to find a piece wherever his next home is. Our deepest condolences for Shauna and family.

Shauna, I had the great privelage of being associated with Tom...he was part of the Farmers Family. We had some great memories together. I was working in the State office for Farmers when we met. His laugh was infectious. We became friends from than on. I was proud to know Tom....we always decided someones character could be figured out on the "golfcourse." He loved golf as much as I did and together we did alot to help kids who were less fortunate. I will always remember Tom for being a social guy and he truly was a salesman. My thoughts are with you and your family. You had a truly great husband and I know he cared for everyone he considered a friend. Your in my thoughts.

I am heart broken for you and your family. It was Tom that helped me survive the move with Farmers from Oregon to Utah back 12 years ago. I loved going to his office with the rattle snake on his desk and unloading my trivial burdens on him. He had a gift for listening and showing empathy but was still able to cut through all the clutter. We would have great dinners at the oyster bar where we would fix all the problems in the world. We talked many times about going to the other side where we would get all the answers to the questions we had here in earth. He was a great teacher and friend. I am so sorry he left so soon.

Shauna, you probably don't remember me but I had the privilege of knowing Tom for some 30 years as an agent for Farmers Ins. He was always in my top 5 favorite district managers along with Jim Lundberg and Earl Stevens and Paul Binns. We spent numerous conventions and meetings sitting together solving the problems of the company, they had no clue how to fix, if they had only asked him and me. I know I will truly miss him as I know you and your extended family will. I look forward to seeing him again one day when all problems will be solved and questions answered, sincerely my thoughts and prayers will be with you, Douglas Orton
