I knew Vervene when we were both students at the Lincoln Elementary, at 3900 So. and 500 East in S.L. County. She was a vivacious, laugh-filled person and fun to be around. Our lives took different pathways and so I knew nothing of her life. I'm glad it was so filled with activities and accomplishments. I have emailed a copy of her obit to several people who will remember her.

Vee was such a great role model and mentor for me. I had the privilege of serving as her campaign intern in 1974 and her legislative intern in the 1975 general session. I have more than a few colorful stories about the "caucuses" held in the women's restroom during the fight to ratify the ERA during that session. Vee continued to be a great friend for many, many years after that political association. Sadly, I will be out of town for her services, otherwise I'd be in the front row singing her praises.

While Vee was known as a champion of causes that effected women, as a young man I was proud to consider her one of my mentors. She always worked hard to support her beliefs. She was unique. I can see and hear her laugh when I look at her photo. The life she brought into a room is sorely missed.
