My husband Clint Stocking was one of the scouts influenced by Walt. I want to share some of the things Clint told me about Walt. Clint suffered a stroke about 7 years ago and lost the use of his left hand so I am transcribing this for him.
Clint was not raised in an actively religious home so Walt took him under his wing when he became a scout. Clint credits Walt for engraving his testimony on his heart through his great example.
What Clint remembers best was that at every campout each evening around the campfire Walt would bear testimony of the Savior. Through this experience he gained his own strong testimony that has never waivered through the many hard trials of life he has faced.
Thank you Walt, we are eternally in your debt. Clint & Vera Stocking

Walt was a terrific horseman, a generous and kind gentleman, and loving family man. Larry and I have many good memories of him and know that his family will find comfort knowing that Walt lived a life full of happiness.

May the God of all comfort strengthen the family during this time of deep sorrow. Those who pass on, God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes. My sincerest condolences. (Psalms 116:15)

The best years in the Winder 4th ward were the years Walter's dad (Walter A.) was bishop. The entire ward would go on outings in the mountains and young Walter R. was always there to make sure everyone had a good time. He also had a horse, Rocket, that he let us neighbor kids ride occasionally, even though the horse nipped at our legs. I'm sure Walter will be missed by all. Thanks for being such a good guy. Condolences to the family.

May the God of all comfort and mercy, grant your family hope, and comfort during this difficult time. Jeremiah 29:11

Our grandpa meant everything to us. A pillar of strength and a true example of lifelong love and service to others and our Father in Heaven.
