Warren Eby Obituary

Warren Craig Eby

1945-2024

Saratoga Springs, UT-Warren "Craig" Eby passed away in his sleep Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at the age of 78 while recovering at Pointe Meadows Rehab Center from a stroke he suffered on April 9, 2024.

Craig was born the youngest of 7 children to Dexter James and Anita Forbes Eby. His mother lovingly called him "Craigy Baby".

Craig is survived by his completely devoted and loving wife Sandra Jean, his three daughters Allison (Nate) Banry, Lauren Cooper and Alissa (Curtis) Allen, his 13 grandchildren (5 married spouses) and 5, almost 6, great grandchildren (1 of whom surely was there to greet him at his passing), and a host of others whom he considered daughters and grandchildren.

He welcomed and loved them all.

Craig grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended Granite High School where he met his sweetheart, Sandra Jean Andersen. After high school, he enlisted in the Marines where he bravely fought in the Vietnam War earning a Purple Heart for being injured while on patrol. During this experience, he also saved a comrade. Upon his return from Vietnam, he married his love, Sandra on June 2, 1966 in Salt Lake City, UT. They moved to Southern California to complete his service. They made their home and life there for the next 40+ years where they raised their 3 daughters. Craig worked in the brokerage industry where he met some wonderful friends whom he & Sandi would raise their children with and remain lifelong friends. Craig had a wonderful voice and loved singing and dancing on and off stage. He was involved in community theater. He loved raising his daughters and being involved in their lives.

On May, 25, 2002, after much pondering, prayer and a few life tweaks, he took his sweetheart and their 3 daughters to the Los Angeles Temple to make covenants that would seal this dear family together forever and into eternity. This was a choice he valued and treasured above anything else. On May 25, 2006, he and Sandi moved to Saratoga Springs, Utah to be with their growing family and enjoy and raise grandchildren. His grandchildren referred to him as DanDan (Granddad) and so did everyone else from then on. Being with his grandchildren was the best for him. Watching them in all their various activities and sports, working with them in the yard, teaching them life lessons, accompanying them to school and church activities, sharing a meal, slipping them a $20 (or maybe that was mom) or snuggling in his chair gave him life. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and when the great grandchildren came along, the adoration continued with them.

Craig loved to putter and be in his beautiful yard, something he really missed being able to do in his later years. Cats have 9 lives so maybe he was a bit of a feline, surviving Agent Orange, being blown up in Vietnam, prostate cancer, and diabetes. Craig was hit hard by Covid in Sept. of 2020 when, on recovering, he was welcomed back home with a soldiers parade. Although Craig had health challenges that were really hard, what was never a challenge was his heart! His heart was big, healthy and functioning and that's how he lived his life, with his heart…big and healthy and functioning for as long as his body allowed.

We thought we were prepared for his passing since this wasn't the first time we thought we might lose him, but the hole in our hearts is BIG and oh how we miss him already. We are grateful his body is whole, free of pain and no longer tethered to oxygen. His legs are healthy and surely he went to heaven dancing and singing. He will miss us too but we will be together again because of covenants made and kept in the temple of our God. What is bound on earth is bound in heaven through sacred priesthood power. We will treasure the life lessons DanDan taught each of us collectively as well as individually. We will go into the world and love BIG, like he always did. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 22, 2024

Craig was one of my first bosses and friends when I moved from Brooklyn to LA. He was a mentor and a friend and I am sad to hear of his passing. May his soul rest in peace.

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your dear Father. Warren Eby served in the USMC with my father, Manuel Lopez and they were wounded together in Vietnam while out on patrol on the 11th of May 1965 in the vicinity of the village of Le My. In the online biography, it references that day and states your Father saved the life of another solider, I wonder if that was my Dad? Please reach out if you are up to it. Deepest condolences to your family.

My memories of the Eby clan start in South Gate, CA and continue with visits after the Utah move. Our families of friends shared so much as our children grew. Craig´s singing (Oh, Holy Night at Christmas), acting (Charley´s Aunt), teasing, laughing, and loving of family and friends is a small part of his legacy. God´s peace Sandi, Allison, Lauren, Alissa and all the Eby clan! (Best Christmas cards ever)

Thank you for including us in your life and your family over the years. We cherish our moments with you and Craig.
We love you Sandi and enjoy watching your family grow. One of our favorite moments was when you & Crag were sealed in the temple and also going to the temple to do the work for the wayward Eby family. The last time Dan was in the Salt Lake Temple with Craig he remembers he was struggling to be there but happy to do it without any combines. Craig never stopped moving forward with hope and accepted things as they were with a
