Wayne Richards Obituary

Wayne Felt Richards  Wayne Felt Richards passed away October 21, 2002, five days prior to his 88th birthday.  Born Oct. 26, 1914 to Joel and Georgina Felt Richards. Married Lucile Cannon on Oct. 15, 1938, in the Salt Lake Temple. He found great joy in his posterity of six loving daughters, 23 grandchildren and 31 great- grandchildren. Was a member of the last graduating class of LDS High; graduate of U of U in Speech and Business Administration. Served in World War II in the Air Force and then Reserves. A pioneer in radio and television at KSL; then marketing and promotion director, exec. sec. and manager of Cottonwood Mall Merchants Association-the first enclosed mall in Utah, loved acting in local theaters. Upon retirement established private consulting firm with ZCMI Center and Olympus Hills Shopping Center.  Active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; served in the Eastern States Mission where he narrated first production of Hill Cumorah Pageant. Served as seminary teacher, Bishop of University 4th Ward, High Counselor in Monument Park Stake, member of Sunday School General Board, temple sealer and coordinator in Sealing Department of Salt Lake Temple. His desire to serve extended into the community, visiting and delivering food to home-bound individuals and reading for the blind through the Utah Radio Reading Service. Preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Helen R. Fellows; brother, Joel Richards III; and son-in-law, Bryan L. Parry. He will be greatly missed by his daughters: Judith R. (J. Paul) Jones, Barbara J. Richards, R. Wendy (Ronald D.) Gardner, Alyson R. Parry, Jill R. (Gavin J.) Anderson, Cherie R. (Gerald A.) Clark; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; his brothers, M. Brent (Rita) and C. Elliott (Margaret) Richards; sister-in-law, Lyn; brother-in-law Eugene; and (adopted daughters) Nadine Bunnell and Sue Baker Smith. Services will be held on his birthday, Saturday, October 26, 2002, at 12 noon at the Monument Park 10th Ward Building, 1930 South 2100 East. Friends may call Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary (2350 East 1300 South) and prior to the funeral Saturday at the church building from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to IHC Hospice; he was grateful for the wonderful service rendered to him. Special thanks to Hospice nurses, Carol and Pat.

I was associated with Wayne in the Air Force Reserve back in the 1950s. Then we visited briefly when he came to California on a Sunday School Board assignment. He was a real gentleman and devoted servant. I am proud to have known him.
