William Gerberding Obituary
Holladay, UT-William F. ("Willi") Gerberding passed away peacefully on February 21, 2014 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on July 27, 1929 in Beckedorf, Schaumburg, Germany. He married Ruth Margarete Bernau on Aug 6, 1955 in Mannheim, West Germany. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 3, 1957. Willi was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed many years ushering at the Tabernacle for General Conference in the foreign language section. Willi loved being at home with his family. He always looked forward to a day of golf with friends. A hobby he enjoyed was making decorative sand bottles and he gave them as gifts to others. Willi worked diligently to provide for his family. He worked as a stone-mason, carpet layer, and for most of his working years as a car salesman for Dave Strong Porsche-Audi-Volkswagen. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb 26, at 11:30 am at the Brighton 4th Ward Chapel, 2301 East Bengal Blvd (7600 S). A viewing will be held Tuesday, February 25, from 6:00-8:00 pm and from 10:00-11:00 am prior to the services at the same location. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3115 East Bengal Blvd.We would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who cared for him. Special thanks to the staff at Highland Care Center for their loving care.

I came to know Willi through the many auto deals he did with my father. Willi is significantly responsible for my passion of all things Audi and Porsche. But more important, Willi's manner and honesty reinforced a young Kevin Kershisnik's values. I think fondly of Willi often and am saddened to learn of his passing. Your family is blessed to have had such a good man at it's helm.

Brother Gerberding was an all-around awesome guy, as well as a good friend and neighbor. I always enjoyed his stories about his experiences in WWII, as well as all the other events he told me about his life. And the two German lessons that he gave me, although probably very painful for him to listen to my pronunciation as I read, are still a memory I treasure. Best wishes to him and to his family, and may his love for us all remain bright.

We were sorry to hear of Willie's illness and passing. He was always so
friendly and kind to us. We felt his special spirit and happy personality in all our dealings with him. His beautiful sand bottle sits in our family room for everyone to admire. He gave us this treasure over 25 years ago and it is still very beautiful. Our condolences to you, his loving family.

Uncle Willi had the best BBQ for us whenever we came to visit. On his way home from work, he would stop off at the German store for some good bread and always made dinner a treat. Nothing but good memories of visiting Aunt Ruth and Uncle Willi growing up. Lots of love to my cousins; I know your memories of your dad (and mom) will give you comfort in the days and years to come. I will forever hear their sweet voices.
