William Kassing Obituary

1936 ~ 2012
William Perry "Gramps" Kassing passed away Wednesday, March 28th, 2012 after a valiant fight with cancer for over 4 years. Perry passed away in his home, surrounded by family and the love of his life Shirley "Bubba" Kassing. Although his time on earth was all too short, we find comfort in knowing he is home with his Heavenly Father and those who have passed before him. We love you Gramps!
Perry touched the life of everyone who knew him and had a special ability to comfort and bless everyone. He loved life and he loved people. If you knew Perry, you felt like you were the most important person in his life. He taught all of us that it's the relationships we build during our time on earth that matter most. His sense of humor and compassion for others were among his greatest traits. Always willing to lend an ear and offer his kind words or a timely poem allowed him to become "Gramps" to many.
Perry was a proud member of the U.S. Navy for 4 years serving as Hospital Corpsman. He was also a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served in many capacities, including Bishop for over 5 years. He worked as an education specialist for over 30 years and was an accomplished author and poet.
Perry is preceded in death by his father, William Kassing and sister Flossie Hough. He is survived by his eternal companion Shirley Meyer Kassing, his mom Pearl Kassing, his brother Dallas (France) Kassing, his children Sheri Kassing, Brett (Lori) Kassing, Jason (Wendee) Kassing, Bonnie (Shawn) Palmer and Skip (Jami) Kassing. His legacy also includes 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and thousands of friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Anna C. Beck and Dr. Edward G. Hashimoto for their years of loving care and service.
The viewing will be held at Broomhead Funeral Home located at 12600 S. 2200 W. in Riverton UT from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, April 2nd.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 3rd at 11:00 am at the Copperview LDS Stake Center located at 12154 S. 3600 W. Riverton UT where friends may call an hour prior. Interment services will follow at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in Riverton UT.

It has been a good number of years since we all lived in a once cozy little neighborhood. I remember that your home was always open and I felt welcome. I felt the influence of your goodness and I thank both Perry and Shirley for that. I am sorry for your loss. Too many have gone too soon from such an ugly thing as cancer. Know that my thoughts are with each of you and pray the Lord will bless and comfort you.

Kassing Family,

He was one of a kind and will be forever in our hearts. We had the pleasure of him marrying us, when he was our Bishop and later he attended our sealing in the temple. We think of him everyday, the lessons and advise we received. We loved him and he will be missed.

Bishop Kassing has always felt like one of the family, because that's how he made me feel. I am grateful that he was the voice of reason during my wild and crazy years. His capacity to love, and to strengthen, and to embrace everyone has always amazed me. The emails that he sent, just because; and the beautiful poetry that he shared will be missed for the rest of my life. Thank you to all of his family, who know what a rockstar this man has been, and shared him with us. I will be forever changed because I knew him.

Your Husband, Father and friend was a wonderful man, thank you for allowing Perry to be part of our lives! Amy and I spoke with Shirley and Perry just a few weeks ago and what a joy that was. We will never forget his laugh and words of wisdom. My family is a better family because of Perry. Please know that our family prayers will be with.
With much Love!
