Aileen Oglesby Obituary

Aileen Tennille Wardlaw Oglesby, age 89, passed away on October 16, 2004 in Kerrville, TX. She was born on April 4, 1915 in Texas City, TX to Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Tennille, originally of Sherman, TX. She entered Southwestern University in 1933 and met her future husband, Cody Martin Wardlaw of Del Rio, TX. In her sophomore year, she was elected Campus Beauty, and also became a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. She later attended Louisiana State University. Aileen and Cody Wardlaw married in the summer of 1935, and ranched at his family ranches in the Del Rio area. They had two children, Cody, Jr. and Tennille. In 1944, she lost her husband but stayed on at the ranch until her children were ready to start school. The family moved to Del Rio, where she was an active member of the Methodist Church, and taught Sunday school while raising her children. Some years later, she met and married Bill Oglesby, a special Agent with the F.B.I. who was a Del Rio resident. A short time they lived in Washington, D.C., then in San Antonio, eventually returning to Del Rio. Bill died in 1983 after several years of illness. She was an active member of the Methodist Church, Del Rio Chamber of Commerce, Daughters of the American Revolution, National Society of Colonial Dames, San Antonio Country Club, Garden Club, Study Club, Pan American Club and the Clipper Club. In 1992, Southwestern University gave a Citation of Merit Award to honor her as a distinguished alumnae for her loyal support of her alma mater due to her outstanding civic and professional service in the geographic field of endeavor. Throughout all the adventures in her life, her favorite time and place remains the same - having all her family together in the evenings at the ranch, telling the tales.
