Alejandro Ledesma Obituary

LEDESMA
After a 12 year battle with brain tumors, our beloved Alejandro Ramon Ledesma, has completed his journey here on earth at the age of 68. Alex was born on September 4, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Aguedo and Maria Isabel Ledesma; brother, Francisco Ledesma; sister, Carmen Hernandez. He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice J. Ledesma; daughters, Andrea P. Ledesma and Cynthia Cadena (Oscar); grandchildren, Victoria, Samantha, Jacob, and Briana; great grandson, Gabriel; sister, Mary Balderas; brothers, Aguedo Ledesma (Dora) and Armando Ledesma; also, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, father-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many friends. Alex was active in the neighborhood association and at Christ the King parish serving in many capacities from Holy Name Society president to leading prayer groups. Before being diagnosed with brain tumors he obtained a Bachelor and Master degree in Social Work from the Worden School at Our Lady of the Lake University. After graduation, he completed a 6-week internship at the Public Defenders Office in Washington, D.C. Because of the tumors, he was unable to fulfill his dream of working in his field, but enjoyed substitute teaching at St. Martin Hall and at Providence High School. Alex always had a smile. He loved music, reading, discussing current events, telling jokes and offering advice on life and on obtaining higher education opportunities for our youth. Above all he loved his family and loved God. He had a deep and fervent devotion to Padre Pio who was always at his side and to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2011 at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 2623 Perez St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. There will be no funeral procession from the funeral home on Wednesday. Everyone will meet at the church. The family expresses its sincerest gratitude to Dr. Thomas Mieras, Dr. Christopher Bogaev, Dr. Jay Hoelsher, the staff at Golden Estates Rehabilitation Center, Vitas Innovative Hospice Care and to all who kept him under constant and fervent prayer. For: Maryalice, Andrea and Family

My prayers are with you and your family. Alex was my compadre and good friend that loved his family, life and music. I remember the times he would reminisce about the Royal Jesters, Sunny and the Sunliners and many others. Also, there were many times my children and I would come to your house for barbeques or just to talk and he would ask: "where's my lemon meringue pie"?. I would usually surprise him and bring one or some other pastry. On one of my vists at the nursing home I mentioned the pies and he laughed and said "where's my pie"?. It was good to see him laugh considering his illness.
