Andrew Janowski Obituary

February 19, 1926 - October 22, 2018
Andrew Janowski passed away peacefully on Monday, October 22, 2018 at the age of 92 years. He was born on February 19, 1926 in San Antonio, Texas to Mike and Emma Janowski. Andrew proudly served his country in the Army during WWII and received the esteemed Combat Infantry Badge. He married the love of his life, Tillie Froboese on August 5, 1950. They shared 66 memorable years together until Tillie's death in June, 2017, 2 months shy of what would have been their 67th wedding anniversary. Andrew was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and was a USPS letter carrier in the Highland Hills area, better known as Andy the mailman, who whistled while he worked. He retired from the USPS in 1981 after 32 years. He is survived by his sons Andrew Janowski Jr, Charles Janowski, daughter Cheryl Gray and husband Bobby, granddaughter Lexi Gray. Preceded in death by granddaughter Shawna Gray. He is survived by sister-in-law Rosemary Gigstead and husband Norman, brother-in-law Joe Howerton, numerous nieces and nephews. His love, hugs and humorous jokes will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 2, 2018 at 1:00 pm followed by interment in Mission Burial Park South.

Thank you to the Janowski Family, especially Andy & Tillie, for looking after the "kid across the street", and taking me into your home like I was your own. Andy would "hide my nose" and yell at the parrot. Tillie was always ready with a snack, or a drink, or a hug. You were there when a little guy really needed a place. Thank you.

Mailman Andy as I used to call him when i was a little girl on Offer street. He will Certainly be missed. He was the kindest person I knew and always encouraging and yes he whistled while he worked that is how I knew he was bringing our mail.I would put packages just for him. Every holiday and just because. I will be praying for all of you.
