Ann VanPelt Obituary

ANN VAN PELT
May 16, 1940 - July 3, 2025
Ann died Thursday, July 3, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Ann leaves the love of her life and beloved husband, John J. McCusker, Jr., and her wonderful, blended family. Her daughter, Terrie Conner and her husband, Tom Conner, and their children, Brittany Morgan, Tatum Conner, and Madison Conner. Her son, Kenneth Florance, his wife, Melissa Gainer, and their children, Dylan Florance and Emily Florance. Her nephew, Scott Van Pelt and his family. Her stepson, John Jay McCusker, III, his wife, Monica Lau, and their children, Kathleen McCusker and Anne McCusker, stepdaughter, Margaret McCusker, her husband, Tim Way and their sons, Daniel Way and Matthew Way. Step-daughter-in-law, Holly McCusker, and her children, Hadley McCusker and Boden McCusker.

Ann was born and raised in Washington, D.C., and moved to San Antonio, Texas, with her husband John in 1992. Ann talked often about the three lives she was privileged to live. Her first life was raising two beautiful children in Springfield, Virginia. She loved being a mom and sharing with them all that is fabulous in the greater Washington, D.C. area. Her second life was as the founder of Flowers Unique in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. She enjoyed sharing stories of the exquisite flowers and all the amazing clients she was fortunate to work with. One of her accomplishments there was as a founding member of the Alexandira Women's Business Association. Her third life started with moving to San Antonio. Here she jumped into real estate and found that she really enjoyed the art of doing business as an agent with the Phyllis Browning Company. Ann was a Residential Property Specialist. Ranked as one of the Top Residential Real Estate Agents in the city, Ann was consistently designated a "Superstar" by the Phyllis Browning Company.

In San Antonio Ann was active in the following: Community Activities - Founding President of the Landa Gardens Conservancy, World Affairs Council, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Monte Vista Historical Association, Trinity University Policy Maker Breakfast Series, San Antonio Museum of Art, McNay Museum of Art, Witte Museum, San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, and Downtown Alliance; Professional Accomplishments and Business Associations - San Antonio Business Journal's List of Top Real Estate Agents, Member, Masters in Leadership, Recipient, Texas Monthly 5 Star Realtor Award, Member, Elite Realtors Group in San Antonio, Member, San Antonio Board of Realtors, Member, Texas Association of Realtors, and Graduate, FBI Citizens' Academy.

Ann was especially proud of being the founding President of the Landa Gardens Conservancy and felt that the Conservancy gave a great gift to the Landa Library, to her neighbors in Monte Vista, and to all those that continue to enjoy the beautiful grounds.

Ann was very dedicated to all her family and loved each one dearly.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Landa Gardens Conservancy, P.O. Box 12243, San Antonio, Texas 28212.

I met Ann about 2 years ago through real estate connections. We have stayed in touch about common interests since then. She was delightful, knowledgeable, resourceful, and compassionate. What a gift she was to those who had the good fortune to know her. She will be missed.

Please accept my sympathy for your loss upon your wife Ann's death. My friend, and your sister, Kathleen, shared her obituary with me. She had a wonderful and giving life. I know that Kathy thought very highly of her and is sadden that she is not able to be with you at this time. I am remembering Ann and all of you in my prayers.
