Sister Annette McHugh died peacefully at her home, Convent of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate on October 27, 2025.

Born on July 8, 1934, to John and Ellen McHugh in County Galway, Ireland, Sr. Annette's life personified the fullness of the Beatitudes. Her family's love empowered her to love generously and to serve unselfishly.

During her 72 years of religious life, she served as an elementary school teacher and pastoral minister. She taught in elementary schools in Shreveport and Lebeau, Louisiana and in Gregory and Dallas, Texas in addition to Little Flower School and Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in San Antonio, Texas. The many years that she ministered at St. Theresa's Parish in Crowley, Louisiana widened her perception of the Kingdom of God and deepened her respect for the "poor in spirit."

Sister Annette loved her religious community deeply and in large and small ways she demonstrated this love every day. Now her community rejoices that at last, Sr. Annette fully beholds God's face.

Sister Annette is mourned by her sister, Sr. Magdalen McHugh, DC, her niece and nephews and their families, her religious community, her friends and other extended family members.

She will be interred in the community cemetery.
