Balthasar Janacek Obituary

Rev. Msgr. Balthasar Joseph Janacek born November 8, 1926, passed away Monday, April 30, 2007 at the age of 80. Fr. Balty touched the lives of many people throughout our community. He served at numerous parishes in the San Antonio and surrounding areas including: St. Cecilia's, St. Lawrence, Christ the King, San Fernando Cathedral, and San Francesco di Paola Catholic Church. Fr. Balty was the Spiritual Director for the Cursillo Movement, a member and President of Texas Old Forts and Missions Restoration Association, committee member of the Texas Society of Architects Joint Committee on Project Gateway for the Restoration of Guerrer, Mexico, and a staff member of the Archdiocesan Commission for Mexican American Affairs. He is survived by his sister, Josephine Severa; sisters-in-law: Olga Janacek, Marcie Janacek, and Mary Jane Janacek. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. in the Sacred Heart Chapel on the campus of Our Lady of the Lake University. A second Rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. at San Fernando Cathedral. Funeral Mass will be offered Friday at 10:00 A.M. at San Fernando Cathedral with Archbishop Jose H. Gomez as celebrant. Services will conclude following the funeral mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Old Spanish Missions, C/O the Archdiocese of San Antonio, P.O. Box 28410, San Antonio, Texas 78228. Condolences may be sent to Fr. Balty's family at www.theangelusfuneralhome.com. Arrangements by: The Angelus Funeral Home.
