Barbara Robinette Obituary

July 7, 1942 - July 21, 2017
Barbara "Robbie" Robinette passed away on July 21, 2017. She was born July 7, 1942, in Paris KY to parents, Joseph (Joe) and Margaret Worthington. She was preceded in death by Laurel Betz, her loving partner of 28 years. She is survived by brother, James (Allene) Worthington; sister, Patsy (Richard) Hamilton; brother, Jerry (Barbara) Ormes; longtime friends, Jeanine Flake, Judy Isaac, Barbara Estes, and Vicki Chew; spiritual confidant, Judy Alban; and those friends she loved dearly (you know who you are).

While growing up Robbie's nickname was "Bobbie" but that changed when her last name became Robinette and it seemed she was called Robbie more than Bobbie, so it stuck.

She graduated from Bourbon County high school in 1960 and entered the U.S. Air force in 1961 and had a stellar career of achievements that earned her numerous awards and accolades. She furthered her education and graduated cum laude from Southwest Texas University. Throughout her career (1961-1984) she was highly respected for her hard work, vision, ability and success in making a difference.

This same respect is prevalent today because of her known work for the Heritage Neighborhood Association (HNA) and her service on different city committees, commissions, and task forces. Her many years as the HNA City Services Coordinator, and seven years as the HNA President plus her work with the City of San Antonio culminated in many of her ideas and suggestions being incorporated into the city municipal code.

She was a member of the Metropolitan Community Church of San Antonio. She deeply believed in the Separation of Church and State as written in the constitution. She believed the constitution is a living document that provides equality for all. She hated to see interpretations of the bible and constitution being used as political weapons to divide people resulting in bigotry and prejudice in the name of religious freedom. She felt the major cause of good people, especially the young, turning away from church teachings was due to far right religious groups, in their pursuit of political power, decided the morals and values for all the people and demonizing those who did not agree.

Robbie enjoyed many things in life. She enjoyed entertaining friends; taking RV trips; dining out; fishing; movies; going to the coast; an occasional trip to a casino; and kicking back at her favorite lake.

Funeral service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, August 11th at 10:30 AM. In her memory, donations may be made to the Converse Animal Shelter, Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, or an animal shelter of your choice.

I had the pleasure of cutting Laurel & Robbie's hair for many years. They were perfectionist and brought out the best in me. I attended their Christmas parties and they introduced me to many sweet people. They treated me with respect and love. I loved them both. I sure did enjoy talking with Robbie about our neighborhood and its challenges. She always had a positive message, and encouraged me to speak up and out when it was appropriate to do so. Will truly miss her wisdom. May God bless and keep Robbie in His care always.

I worked with Robbie on many initiatives for the Heritage NA. Most importantly, keeping the Heritage ducks safe. She was so passionate about her community. This is truly a loss for District 4. My condolences to her family and friends.
