Barbara Simpson Simon, beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and sister, was welcomed into heaven on December 12, 2022 surrounded by her daughters after a short battle with cancer.
Barbara was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to John Gervais Simpson and Alys Marie Livaudais. She moved to Long Beach, Mississippi when she was nine, then graduated from St. John High School in Gulfport, Mississippi, where she was Valedictorian and played basketball. She also won state awards in Typing and Shorthand. In 1956 she moved to San Antonio, Texas. She married in 1958 and had two daughters, Debbie and Linda. She was a housewife and active community volunteer for many years. She served as PTA President at Colonies North Elementary and President of the Northside Opti-Mrs. Club. In later years she worked as an Architectural Administrator for over 30 years.
She attended St. George Episcopal Church for over 50 years where she was a faithful servant and pillar of the church. She was a Daughter of the King and served on the Vestry, Altar Guild, Lay Eucharistic Ministry, Pastoral Care Ministry, Greeter Ministry, Welcome Bag Ministry, and as a Eucharistic Visitor and Treasurer of the Willman Trust Fund. She was always present and ready to helpout whenever there was a need. She participated in a weekly bible study for many years and cheerfully supported the staff and students of the St. George Episcopal School. She also served as Delegate to Diocesan Council in the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas several times.
The greatest joys of her life were her two daughters, Debbie and Linda, and her three grandsons, Brandon, Logan, and Conner. She was fondly known by family and friends as "Baba." Her faith and her family meant everything to her. She was loving, caring, selfless and always had a servant heart. She was a Godly woman and a beautiful woman inside and out. She was greatly loved by everyone she met.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John Gervais and Alys Marie Simpson, and her brother, John "Jack" Simpson.
She is survived by her loving daughters Debbie Godfrey (partner Joe), Linda Ertel (husband Chuck), grandsons Brandon Godfrey (wife Raidis), Logan Godfrey, Conner Ertel (wife Mary Catherine), sister Susan Clark (husband George), and numerous other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 14th at 11:00 AM at St. George Episcopal Church, 6904 West Avenue, San Antonio, Texas, with the Committal in the church garden immediately following, the Rev. Ramiro Lopez officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts honoring Barbara, to Abode Contemplative Care (San Antonio) or St. George Episcopal Church (San Antonio).
The family would like to thank Crest Hospice and the End of Life Navigators and volunteers at Abode Contemplative Care for their love, care, and tenderness during her final days. Heartfelt thanks to St. George Episcopal Church for the generous donation to Abode Contemplative Care in honor of Barbara.
